Kyoho grape origin, whether it has seeds, and how it differs from Summer Black grape
Kyoho grape is one of many grape varieties and is quite popular in the market, not only for its large size and sweet taste, but also for its relatively moderate price. Kyoho grape has a long market season, is easy to manage when grown, and has relatively high yields, making it one of the varieties favored by growers. Let us take a look below at where the Kyoho grape originates, whether it has seeds, and how it differs from Summer Black grape.
1. Where does the Kyoho grape originate?
The Kyoho grape originates from Japan. China introduced it in 1959 and promoted large-scale cultivation across the country. In Pingyi and Longkou in Shandong, Weixian and Changli in Hebei, and the Linghu, Chashanao and Dongyangdu areas of Hengyang City in Hunan Province, it buds in mid-April, flowers in late May, and the fruit ripens in late July. When grown in solar greenhouses, it can ripen and reach the market in early August. Weixian grape has become the largest production area in southern Hebei. Buhe Town in Jingzhou City, Hubei Province, is also rich in this grape. The Malu area of Shanghai is also rich in this variety of grape.
Gaizhou in Liaoning produces Kyoho and Red Globe grapes. Among them, open-field Kyoho grapes in the Gaizhou area of Liaoning reach the market in August, and Red Globe grapes reach the market in September, mainly sold to various parts of southern China. The grapes have large berries, a dark purple color, a sweet taste, and tolerate transport and storage well, making them deeply loved by consumers.
2. Do Kyoho grapes have seeds?
Kyoho grapes originally have seeds, but cultivated varieties are seedless. This plant generally buds in mid-April, flowers in late May, and the fruit ripens in July. Its growth requires sufficient water, and the humidity requirements of the environment must be met, but it should remain dry during the flowering period, which is favorable for pollination. However, too dry conditions can also cause the corolla to fall off, affecting fruit set.
3. Is there a difference between Kyoho grape and Summer Black grape?
Summer Black grape originates from Japan and is a European-American hybrid grape bred by crossing Kyoho grape with Thompson Seedless; Summer Black grape ripens earlier than ordinary grapes, generally already mature in July. The fruit is purple-black or blue-black and has characteristics such as high sugar content, low acidity, being seedless, having a fragrant, rich, sweet and crisp flesh, not shedding berries, and tolerating transport and storage. It tastes sweet and delicious with a slight tartness; the skin clings tightly to the flesh, so it can be eaten without spitting out the skin. It is one of the tastiest grape varieties on the market.
Kyoho grape is tetraploid and under normal circumstances will have seeds; Summer Black grape is triploid and under normal circumstances cannot develop seeds. So the difference between Kyoho grape and Summer Black grape is that Kyoho grape has seeds, while Summer Black grape does not. If the Summer Black grapes you eat have seeds, then you may have eaten “fake Summer Black grapes.” The skin of Kyoho grapes can be peeled off very easily and can remain intact, while the skin of Summer Black grapes is not so easy to peel.
