Bullfrog pond farming refers to an aquaculture method in which bullfrogs are raised in artificially constructed ponds. The bullfrog (Lithobates catesbeianus) is native to North America and is characterized by its large size, fast growth and tender meat, making it one of the common edible frog species on the market today. A pond environment is relatively close to the bullfrog's natural habitat conditions, and construction and management are comparatively simple, making it suitable for farmers and small to medium-sized farms.

The pond should preferably be built in a place with abundant water sources, good water quality and convenient drainage and irrigation. Anti-escape netting or walls must be set up around the pond banks, because bullfrogs are good at jumping and can easily escape. Generally, part of the water surface is retained in the pond, and land areas or floating islands are arranged for them to rest on. In hot seasons, shade should also be provided; planting aquatic plants appropriately can both improve water quality and provide hiding places.

Bullfrogs are carnivorous animals and are usually fed artificial compound feed as well as live bait such as small fish and small insects. Feeding should be done at fixed times, in fixed amounts and at fixed locations, and adjusted flexibly according to the weather and feeding conditions. During the tadpole and young frog stages, it is best to raise them in separate ponds by size, to avoid large frogs swallowing small ones. In daily management, frequent pond inspections are needed, with timely water changes and removal of leftover bait to keep the water fresh and reduce the occurrence of disease.

During the farming process, attention should also be paid to preventing escape, bird damage and disease, adhering to prevention first, and doing a good job of pond disinfection and isolation of sick frogs. Bullfrog pond farming requires relatively moderate investment, and the products are mainly aimed at the food market. However, before developing it, one should understand the local market conditions, farming permits and environmental protection requirements, and carry out standardized farming, so as to obtain relatively stable returns.
