Poultry farming refers to the agricultural production activity of raising domesticated birds such as chickens, ducks, geese, quail and turkeys to obtain products including meat and eggs. It has a long history of rearing in various regions, is an important part of the livestock industry, and is also the main business of many farmers and farms.

Common poultry breeds are very diverse; for example, chickens can be divided into egg-type, meat-type and dual-purpose types; ducks are divided into meat and egg types; and geese are mainly kept for meat and other purposes. Different breeds differ in growth rate, egg-laying performance and environmental adaptability, and farmers usually choose suitable breeds according to local climate, market demand and rearing conditions.

In terms of rearing methods, poultry farming can broadly be divided into housing, free-range and cage systems. Housing facilitates centralized management, free-range helps strengthen the flock's constitution and improve product flavor, and cage systems are mostly used for laying hen production. Whichever method is adopted, routine management such as site disinfection, feed formulation, drinking water hygiene and ventilation and warmth must be done well, and nutritional supply must be adjusted according to the different growth stages of the poultry.

Disease prevention and control is a key part of poultry farming. Once common epidemics occur, they can easily cause relatively large losses, so it is very necessary to carry out vaccination, daily observation and isolation of sick birds according to procedures. As consumers pay more attention to food safety and animal welfare, models such as ecological farming and antibiotic-free farming are also gradually gaining attention, providing new development directions for traditional poultry farming.
