The Eurasian Siskin is a small songbird of the finch family, named for the bright yellow in its plumage, and it is also commonly called the yellow bird or golden finch among enthusiasts. The yellow bird in the idiom "the mantis stalks the cicada, unaware of the oriole behind" is generally thought to be this kind of small bird. It is widely distributed in our country, and its song is crisp and melodious, making it a common species among cage-kept ornamental birds throughout history.

Wild Eurasian Siskins mostly inhabit coniferous and mixed forests, feeding mainly on tree seeds, and they also eat insects and tender plant shoots. In a domestic setting, they can be fed daily on a mixture of millet, barnyard grass seed, perilla seed, rapeseed and the like, along with a small amount of green vegetables and fruit to supplement nutrition. Food and drinking water should be kept fresh, and food and water containers should be cleaned regularly to avoid mold.

The cage for keeping a Eurasian Siskin should not be too small, and it is best to have perches inside for it to hop and move about. It likes water baths, and in warm weather a shallow dish of water can be provided for it to bathe on its own. Pay attention to keeping it warm in winter and avoid direct cold drafts; in summer, place it in a ventilated, shaded spot to prevent exposure to intense sun.

The Eurasian Siskin has a long tradition of learning calls, and with patient training it can imitate the calls of other birds, which is one of the reasons it is well liked. In daily care, pay more attention to the bird's mental state and droppings, and promptly adjust its diet and environment if abnormalities are found. In addition, wild birds are protected by relevant laws and regulations, so they should be obtained through proper channels and kept in a civilized manner.
