Freshwater bass farming refers to the production method of artificially rearing bass in freshwater environments such as ponds, net cages or recirculating water systems. The most common species is the California bass (largemouth bass), while in some areas species such as the river perch are also farmed. Bass has tender flesh with few intermuscular bones, making it highly popular with consumers, so the scale of farming has continued to expand and it has become an important species in freshwater aquaculture.

Freshwater bass has strong adaptability and can be farmed alone or polycultured with species such as silver carp and bighead carp to help regulate water quality. Under conditions of sufficient feed and good water quality, the fry can gradually reach market size after a period of rearing. During the farming process, individuals should also be graded and transferred to separate ponds in a timely manner according to their size, to avoid cannibalism and uneven growth.

Water quality management is the key to the success or failure of farming. Daily attention should be paid to indicators such as dissolved oxygen and ammonia nitrogen, with regular addition of fresh water and rational use of aeration equipment. Feeding should preferably be at fixed times and locations, choosing high-quality compound feed, and the feeding amount should be flexibly adjusted according to weather and water temperature to reduce pollution of the water body by leftover bait.

Common problems in bass farming include stress, gill rot and a relatively heavy burden on the liver and gallbladder. Prevention should be the priority, with good work in fry quarantine, tool disinfection and daily pond inspections. In recent years, sustainable concepts such as reducing groundwater extraction, ecological recycling and drug-residue-free farming have received increasing attention in the aquaculture field, and bass produced using healthy farming models are also more competitive in the market.
