The large yellow croaker is one of China's four traditional marine products, with a golden body color and tender flesh, and has long been popular with consumers. Because wild resources once declined, artificial aquaculture has become the main way to meet market demand. Large yellow croaker farming has now become an important mariculture industry along the southern coast of China, with large-scale production in Fujian, Zhejiang, Guangdong and other places.

In terms of farming methods, large yellow croaker aquaculture is mainly based on marine cages, including traditional fishing-raft-style cages and deep-water large cages with stronger wind and wave resistance. In some areas, pond farming and deep-sea aquaculture platforms have also been developed. Different models have different emphases: cage farming is close to natural sea conditions, while deep-sea platforms help improve water quality conditions and enhance the quality of commercial fish.

In daily management, large yellow croaker prefers to inhabit sea areas with smooth water flow and sufficient dissolved oxygen. Farmers need to adjust the feeding amount according to changes in water temperature and use compound feed reasonably to reduce water pollution. The high-temperature season and the stages of seedling transfer and cage splitting are periods when diseases occur frequently. Common problems include parasites and bacterial diseases, among others. Persisting in daily inspections and doing a good job in preventive management is crucial.

Farmed large yellow croaker not only supplies the fresh-food market, but is also often processed into salted fish, dried fish and other products, with relatively high economic value. At the same time, artificially bred seedlings are also used for stock enhancement and release, which plays a positive role in restoring wild large yellow croaker resources in coastal waters.
