Yanya is the name of a variety among Chinese orchids (guolan), and it often comes up in orchid exhibitions and in conversations among orchid enthusiasts. The name easily brings to mind the "Three Ya" of Ya'an, Sichuan, and by borrowing "Yanya" (elegant woman) as a flower name, it expresses people's appreciation for graceful flower form and refined beauty.

As a traditional variety valued for its flowers, Yanya draws attention mainly for its plant form, flower color and how well the flowers hold. Overall, it is expected to have spreading leaf posture and a well-balanced plant form; when in bloom, the flowers should be neat and elegant in spirit, with the distinctive delicate fragrance of Chinese orchids. Whether the variety's traits can be expressed consistently is also an important standard for judging its value.

Its care methods are similar to those of other Chinese orchids. The potting medium should be loose, breathable and well-draining; before potting, the medium can be given a secondary treatment to sift out dust and debris. Watering follows the principle of "dry then wet," and in orchid circles it is often said that watering takes three years of skill; it must be adjusted flexibly according to season, weather and the condition of the plants. During the growing season, give soft, diffused light and keep the environment ventilated; in summer, pay attention to shading and preventing heat stress.

When selecting plants to introduce, check the leaves for disease spots and whether the root system is robust, and try to avoid weak or diseased plants. After new plants arrive, first place them in a ventilated, shady spot to acclimatize, then move them into routine care. Growing Yanya well can both adorn a home or courtyard and serve as a way to get closer to orchid culture.
