Qidianxiu is a variety name among Chinese orchids (guolan), often seen in exchanges among orchid enthusiasts and in introduction and cultivation. Variety names of Chinese orchids often carry the fine hopes of the breeder or introducer, and the name Qidianxiu carries a similar implication. As an ornamental orchid, it is, like other Chinese orchids, prized by enthusiasts for the beauty of both its flowers and leaves and its delicate fragrance.

In terms of appreciation, the highlights of Qidianxiu are basically the same as those of other Chinese orchid varieties, focusing mainly on leaf posture, petal type, flower color and fragrance. Chinese orchid petals are often judged by types such as plum petal, lotus petal, narcissus petal and butterfly petal; flower colors range from emerald green and pure white to crimson, and a clear, distant and long-lasting fragrance is considered superior. Specifically for Qidianxiu, performance varies with different sources of plants and care conditions, so when introducing it, it is best to judge by the actual bloom of the real plant.

In terms of care, the management points for Qidianxiu are similar to those for orchids in general. The growing medium should be loose, breathable and well-draining, commonly mixed from bark, Kanuma pumice, volcanic stone and the like; watering follows the principle of dry-wet alternation, avoiding water accumulation in the pot that causes root rot. Provide scattered light during the growing period, pay attention to shading and ventilation in summer, keep appropriately warm in winter, and fertilize with light applications given frequently.

Propagation is mostly by division, usually carried out in spring and autumn together with repotting; when dividing, each clump should retain enough robust pseudobulbs and new shoots. Newly introduced plants should first be placed in a ventilated, shady spot to recover, and then moved to normal management after adapting to the environment. When purchasing, check whether the leaf form and bloom match the variety's characteristics, so as to avoid mistakenly buying similar varieties.
