The Vanda Miss Joaquim orchid is an artificial hybrid genus in the Orchidaceae family, generally bred by crossing Vanda with Ascocentrum (also known as the bird's-tongue orchid), and is a typical tropical epiphytic orchid. Its name is somewhat similar to the succulent plants Sedum morganianum 'Chiyoda no Matsu' and Sedum pachyphyllum 'Yatsuyo', but the two are not related; the Vanda Miss Joaquim orchid is a genuine orchid, so do not confuse them.

The Vanda Miss Joaquim orchid is a monopodial epiphytic orchid with an upright stem, strap-shaped alternate leaves, and thick, well-developed aerial roots that can absorb water and nutrients directly from the air. The flowers are small and densely clustered, with bright, rich colors, commonly red, orange, pink, yellow, and purple-red; the flower stalks emerge from the leaf axils and open in strings, and a single flower has a long ornamental period. Under suitable conditions, it can bloom several times a year.

In terms of care, the Vanda Miss Joaquim orchid likes a high-temperature, high-humidity environment with ample light and good ventilation. It is afraid of cold and freezing, so it needs to be kept warm in winter. When cultivating it, ordinary soil is usually not used; instead, it is often hung in wooden baskets or grown in well-aerated media such as coarse bark and tree-fern fiber, allowing the roots to breathe fully. During the growing season, it needs frequent watering and fertilizing, while also ensuring air circulation to reduce the occurrence of disease.

With its bright flower colors and relatively long ornamental period, the Vanda Miss Joaquim orchid is often used for potted plants, hanging cultivation, and cut flowers, and is quite popular in home gardening in tropical regions. It is relatively sensitive to low temperatures, so in colder areas it is generally grown as an indoor or greenhouse flower. As long as stable light and humidity are provided, the plant can grow very robustly.
