Pothos is an evergreen vine that can grow to 20 m tall, with stems up to 4 cm in diameter, climbing by means of aerial roots that attach to surfaces. The leaves are alternate, heart-shaped, entire on young plants, but irregularly pinnate on mature plants, up to 100 cm (39 inches) long and 45 cm (18 inches) wide; young leaves are much smaller, usually less than 20 cm (8 inches) long. The flowers are up to 23 cm (9 inches) long. The plant produces trailing stems when it climbs trees, and these root when they reach the ground and grow along it. The leaves on these trailing stems grow to 10 cm (4 inches) long, and this is the form commonly seen when the plant is kept as a potted plant.

As a houseplant, its height can reach more than 2 m, but it is difficult for it to form adult-sized leaves. Achieve the best results by providing indirect light; it tolerates strong light intensity, but prolonged direct sunlight will burn the leaves. Its temperature is between 17 and 30°C. Generally, the plant only needs watering when the soil feels dry to the touch. Liquid fertilizer can be added in spring, and it must be repotted once every two years. However, it is a very tough plant that tolerates poor growing conditions. The plant grows rapidly in hydroponic culture.

It can be propagated from cuttings, which are a part of the plant used in plant propagation. When propagating from cuttings, a potting mix made of coir or a mixture of peat moss and coir produces the best results, including improved root formation and growth.

Hydroponic Growing Methods for Pothos
1. You can cut off a leaf; the cut end should be slightly slanted, which also makes it easier for roots to form in the water.
2. Do not use tap water directly; leave the tap water standing for a while, because tap water contains relatively many bacteria, which will harm the pothos; so leave the tap water standing for a while. This increases some beneficial bacteria from the air, which is good for the growth of the pothos.
3. The growing container chosen should be transparent, because the roots of the pothos need light to pass through. If it is not transparent, its roots will grow very slowly and will also be relatively short.
