Tainong No. 16, also called Honey Sweet Pineapple: Origin, Season and Taste Introduction

Tainong No. 16 / Honey Sweet Pineapple is a pineapple variety from Taiwan, China. Honey Sweet Pineapple has a natural pineapple aroma and flavor, tasting as fragrant as honey.

Features of Honey Sweet Pineapple:
1. The Honey Sweet Pineapple fruit is sweet and delicious, with an especially excellent flavor!

2. The Honey Sweet fruit has a long conical shape, and when ripe the rind turns a fresh, beautiful yellow.

How do you choose a pineapple by listening to the sound? Generally, when we go to the market to buy a pineapple, we tap it with our hand and judge by the sound which pineapple is the most delicious. At present, the sounds are divided into the following 3 types:

(1). When you tap the pineapple with your finger, if it makes a pa! pa! pa! sound and the sound is the same as tapping on your own hand, then it is a meat-sound fruit.

(2). If it sounds like beating a drum, then it is a drum-sound fruit.

(3). Post-sound fruit ~ the sound is like tapping on a wooden post.

But choosing a pineapple depends on the variety and the season, with different standards; however, Honey Sweet Pineapples are all drum-sound fruits!

⟦NL>It was developed by the Chiayi Agricultural Experiment Branch through hybridization of Normal Kaiying + Rough, and was officially named Tainong No. 16 (Honey Sweet Pineapple) in 1995.

Fruit shape: long conical or slightly oval, with no spines at the leaf tip or leaf margin, the upper midrib of the leaf is light purplish red and has raised stripes, the fruit eyes are slightly protruding, the flesh fiber is extremely fine, the texture is tender, the sweetness is high, and the flavor is excellent; the sugar content is about 18 Brix, the acidity is about 0.47%, and the average fruit weight is about 1.3 Kg.

Origin and season: the normal season is about July-August; after adjustment, March-June in the Kaohsiung and Pingtung areas, and April-July in the Chiayi area.

Honey Sweet Pineapple (Tainong No. 16) gives off a very fragrant smell itself, so many people like it very much. The flesh of Honey Sweet Pineapple is a bit paler in color than that of Golden Diamond Pineapple, and as soon as you cut it open you smell a wonderful fragrance, and you cannot resist wanting to take a bite right away!
