How much is red banana per jin? An introduction to its origin and taste characteristics
Bananas are rich in almost all vitamins and minerals, with a high content of dietary fiber, making them a highly nutritious fruit. Today we are introducing the "red-skinned banana," which is rarely seen or eaten. How does a banana priced at $50 NTD each actually taste?
The red-skinned banana is plumper and thicker in appearance than an ordinary yellow banana. When peeled, the flesh looks the same as an ordinary yellow banana, but it tastes completely different. Its texture is such that the outer layer of flesh quickly melts in the mouth, while the middle is very much like custard, soft and springy, very sweet and delicious. But it has no apple flavor at all!
The red-skinned banana gets its name because its peel is dark red.
Source: This species is found throughout banana-growing regions worldwide, and is cultivated in Central and South America and Southeast Asia. There is a small amount of cultivation in central and southern Taiwan, China, with more in the central region.
Fruit characteristics: The peel is dark red, and when ripe it is apple red. The flesh is yellow-white, relatively soft in texture, sweet and fragrant in taste. Because it is rarely cultivated, the price is relatively high, generally around 400 yuan per jin. The fruit fingers are short and plump. This species often undergoes somatic mutation, in which the pseudostem and fruit turn green, and it is called [green-skinned banana].
