The orchid had rotted beyond recognition, I barely did anything, just changed the pot, and it actually sprouted new shoots!

The Jianlan (Cymbidium ensifolium) I grew this year rotted beyond recognition during the dog days of summer, and only one of the five seedlings was left! The ventilation indoors was poor, so I simply put it outside the window for airflow, only bringing it in when the afternoon sun was directly shining, and for watering, I waited until the soil was completely dry and then soaked the pot. Unexpectedly, this remaining one survived tenaciously and recently even sprouted new shoots. It seems that for orchids, ventilation is a crucial factor.

I really didn't do much, just changed the pot and the growing medium. Then I directly pulled off whatever looked rotten, and they were all rotting from the core. A rotten core means it has rotted. Rotten new shoots might still be saved, but old seedlings are basically done for. It sprouted new shoots, which is a bit unconventional.

You can also use the method of tapping the pot to judge whether it needs watering. Generally, when we grow orchids, we all use ceramic pots, because ceramic pots are more breathable when it comes to cultivation. Although if we are not sure whether we need to water it, we can tap the pot with our hand. If the sound sounds relatively hollow, then it proves that its soil is relatively dry and we need to water it.

Orchids have relatively high requirements for water quality. If the water is not clean during our care process, it can easily cause its roots to be attacked by some bacteria, which will then gradually cause its roots to rot.
