The king of fruits, the durian, is a fruit that people both love and hate. The durian's distinctive smell may be unbearable to some, but its rich, juicy flesh looks mouthwatering.   Where do durians mainly come from?

Durians are mainly distributed in Southeast Asia. They originated in Brunei, Malaysia and Indonesia, and were later introduced to the Philippines and other countries where they are widely cultivated. Today they are mostly produced in Thailand, Malaysia and Indonesia. They are also grown in other areas such as Cambodia, Laos, Vietnam, Myanmar, India, Sri Lanka, the West Indies, Florida, Hawaii, Papua New Guinea, the Polynesian Islands, Madagascar, northern Australia and Singapore.

  Durian-growing regions in China

When it comes to durian-growing regions in China, the editor will first explain the growing conditions for durians and whether China is suitable for growing them. Durian is a purely tropical product, and as we know, tropical crops have very high heat requirements: durians can only grow normally and smoothly in areas where the multi-year average temperature stays above 0 degrees, there is no frost all year round, the accumulated temperature is greater than 10 degrees Celsius, and annual rainfall is above 1000 mm. Therefore, they can only bear fruit normally in years with sufficient heat and suitable climate conditions. Looking at the distribution of China's climatic zones, most of Guangdong belongs to the subtropical zone, and the only tropical area is south of Zhanjiang, so it is not very suitable for growing durians. At present, there is a small amount of cultivation in Guangdong, Taiwan, China and Hainan. It is understood that durians have been successfully cultivated in the Xinglong Tropical Botanical Garden in Hainan, flowering from April to May and ripening from August to September, though the taste is not as good as imported ones. So if you ask which region of China produces durians, then it is only Guangdong and Hainan.
