"A ride through the dust, the concubine smiles, no one knows the lychee has come." Lychee has been a fruit deeply loved by the public since ancient times, and now in the midsummer season, it is the best time to eat lychee. Its unique flavor and glutinous-sweet taste attract many consumers to buy. As is well known, China is a major lychee producing country, with many varieties and producing areas. So where is lychee a specialty? What varieties of lychee are there? Let's find out together.

Where is lychee a specialty?

Lychee is a specialty of Guangdong and Fujian. Lychee in China is mainly distributed within the range of 18-29 degrees north latitude. Guangdong has the most cultivation and the most complete varieties, followed by Fujian. Guangdong lychee tastes fresh and sweet and is also the most famous. Most of the common lychee on the market is Guangdong lychee. In addition to Guangdong and Fujian, lychee is also planted and distributed in Sichuan, Guangxi and Taiwan, China, and is one of the fruit varieties deeply loved by people.

What varieties of lychee are there?

At present, there are thirteen main cultivated varieties, including: Sanyuehong, Yuanzhi, Heiye, Huaizhi, Guiwei, Nuomici, Yuanhong, Lanzhu, Chenzi, Gualv, Shuijingqiu, Feizixiao, Baitangying, etc. A few are briefly introduced below:

1. Sanyuehong: named Sanyuehong because it matures in late March of the lunar calendar. It belongs to the earliest-maturing type.

2. Feizixiao: it looks large, plump, and has particularly obvious color contrast. It is often red in one part and green in another on a single lychee, like a concubine covering her face and giggling. Feizixiao has a medium-small pit, lots of juice, and is sweet. It generally matures from late May to early June.

3. Baitangying: Baitangying, also called Fengying, means it has the taste of honey. The fruit body is relatively large, flat in shape, and偏心形 in appearance, with a not-large pit. The maturity time is around late May to mid-June.

4. Gualv: the Gualv fruit is as large as a chicken seal, with a pit as small as a pea. The peel is dark red with green, the龟裂片 are flat, and the suture line is obvious. The flesh is thick and crisp, richly sweet and juicy, and fragrant when eaten.

5. Nuomici: the fruit shape is somewhat heart-shaped, with a crooked stalk. The fruit is relatively large, bright red mixed with waxy yellow, and the prickly feel of the skin is not obvious. The flesh is milky white and translucent, thick and abundant, with a tender and smooth texture, extremely fresh and sweet taste, a thin and small pit, and high natural sugar content.

In general, many provinces in our country grow lychee, among which Guangdong and Fujian are the two places whose lychee is the most famous, and each place also has its own quite representative lychee varieties. I wonder which place's lychee everyone likes to eat? Welcome to leave a message for discussion.
