How much is the market price of filefish per jin? Origin and nutritional value analysis
Filefish, also called leatherjacket, elephant skin fish, zizise and so on, has been an important commercial fish ranking second in production among China's marine catches since the 1980s. So, how much is the market price of filefish per jin? Where is it produced? What nutritional value does it have?
1. How much is the market price of filefish per jin?
The market price of filefish is about 25 to 50 yuan per jin. Filefish is one of China's important marine commercial fish, and its annual output is second only to that of hairtail, but as the catch has increased year by year, filefish weighing more than 250 grams are now hard to find. In fact, adult filefish are not as small as mice. Before 2000, filefish weighing 500 grams or even more than 1000 grams could often still be seen in coastal markets. It is just that in the past decade, the filefish market has gradually shifted inland, making adult filefish of more than 500 grams almost extinct in the market. Every year the market consumes a large number of juvenile filefish, causing the resources of this species to become fewer and fewer.
2. Where is filefish produced?
Filefish is a very typical benthic and schooling fish, distributed in the western Pacific Ocean. In China it is mainly produced in the East China Sea and the Yellow Sea and Bohai Sea, with the East China Sea having the larger output. In the waters off Wenzhou and Taizhou, the Tsushima Strait and the eastern Fujian fishing ground, the peak season is from December to March of the following year; in the Diaoyu Islands fishing ground, the peak season is from March to May; in the Zhoushan fishing ground and the outer Zhoushan fishing ground, the peak season is from May to June; and in the central and northern Yellow Sea and the southern Bohai Sea, the fishing season is from April to October.
3. What nutritional value does filefish have?
The liver of filefish is large and can be used to make cod liver oil. The liver accounts for 3.9 to 7.4% of the whole fish's weight, and its oil content is as high as 50 to 60%. The oil residue can also replace tung oil putty. The bones can be made into canned fish steaks, and the head, skin and internal organs can be made into fishmeal. The skin can be processed into soluble edible fish protein. This is a nutritious food rich in protein, containing not only a variety of amino acids but also being easily digested and absorbed by the human body. Therefore, it is a good nutritious food for young children and for generally frail and sickly people. However, the edible protein obtained has a special fishy odor, which affects its practical value.
