During the cultivation of button mushrooms, thin-skinned mushrooms and hollow mushrooms often appear. The occurrence of this phenomenon not only lowers the quality of button mushrooms, but also seriously affects the economic returns of mushroom growers. Therefore, great care must be taken in cultivation management. So how should hollow, thin-skinned button mushrooms be prevented?

During the cultivation of button mushrooms, thin-skinned mushrooms and hollow mushrooms often appear. The occurrence of this phenomenon not only lowers the quality of button mushrooms, but also seriously affects the economic returns of mushroom growers. Therefore, great care must be taken in cultivation management. So how should hollow, thin-skinned button mushrooms be prevented? Let's learn about it together.

I. Causes of hollow, thin-skinned button mushrooms

1. Slightly high temperature

The appearance of thin-skinned button mushrooms is mainly related to slightly high temperature. Excessive temperature causes the fruiting bodies to grow rapidly, and combined with high cultivation density, the nutrient supply becomes insufficient.

2. Variety characteristics

In addition, the appearance of thin-skinned mushrooms is also related to variety characteristics. Appressed-type varieties mostly fruit densely and are prone to producing thin-skinned mushrooms, with low yield and poor quality; while aerial-type varieties, when the compost and casing soil layer are too thin, plus light and infrequent watering, cause insufficient nutrient and water supply, and thin-skinned mushrooms also appear.

3. Improper watering

During the water-regulation period after casing, because watering is light, watering is frequent, and water regulation is fast, plus the mushroom house has little ventilation, the air humidity in the mushroom house becomes relatively high, the mycelium growth position is too high, and the fruiting bodies grow directly on the surface of the fine soil, in front of the base, producing thin-skinned mushrooms.

4. Improper water management

The appearance of hollow button mushrooms is caused by improper water management during the fruiting period. During the fruiting period of button mushrooms, if the air humidity is low, the mushroom bodies evaporate water quickly, plus little watering on the soil surface, the water layer is too dry, and because the fruiting bodies cannot get sufficient water during growth, the stipes then produce white loose pith, or even hollow mushrooms.

II. Preventive measures

Take preventive measures against the causes of hollow, thin-skinned button mushrooms. During the fruiting body formation period, control the temperature at a suitable level, neither too high nor too low, pay attention to cultivation density, and ensure sufficient nutrient supply. During the water-regulation period, appropriate ventilation should be maintained so that the fruiting position is between the coarse soil and fine soil layers; this can reduce thin-skinned mushrooms. At the same time, appropriately increase the thickness of the compost and soil layer, and strengthen water management during the fruiting period, which can also prevent the appearance of thin-skinned mushrooms. During the fruiting period, strengthen water management and carry out timely pauses in watering followed by heavy watering, so that the soil layer does not become too dry, and at the same time the coarse soil particles can also obtain water, maintaining a certain humidity, so that the rapidly growing fruiting bodies can get sufficient water and the appearance of hollow mushrooms can be prevented.
