Where is the origin of Summer Black grapes? Latest information
The origin of Summer Black grapes is Japan, a descendant of Kyoho grapes, an early-maturing European-American variety, and grapes can be eaten as early as July. The characteristics of Summer Black grapes are early maturity, seedlessness, high sugar and low acid, rich aroma, fine and crisp flesh, and medium hardness, which is relatively hard among European-American grapes.
Summer Black grape is a European-American hybrid, a triploid variety, bred by the Yamanashi Prefecture Fruit Tree Experiment Station in Japan from a cross of Kyoho X diploid Thompson Seedless. It was registered as a variety in August 1997 and introduced to China in 1998.
The Summer Black grape plant has strong and vigorous growth, with a bud burst rate of 85%. The shoot formation rate is 95%, and each fruiting shoot bears an average of 1.5 inflorescences. Latent buds that sprout into shoots have strong fruiting ability and high yield potential. In the Zhangjiagang area of Jiangsu, it buds in late March, flowers in mid-May, and the fruit ripens in late July. The number of days from flowering to fruit ripening is about 110 days, making it an early-maturing seedless variety. It has strong disease resistance, and after the fruit ripens, it does not crack or drop.
