Winter is the season for eating persimmons. Thinking back to the scene in "My Fair Princess" where Xiao Yanzi stole persimmons in the persimmon orchard still makes one's mouth water. Actually, growing persimmons is not easy. Persimmon trees are prone to anthracnose. So what are the disease characteristics of persimmon anthracnose? What harm does anthracnose do to persimmons?

I. Disease characteristics of persimmon anthracnose

(1) New shoots

1. In the early stage of disease onset, very small black round spots appear on the branches.

2. In the middle stage, the round spots expand in shape and deepen in color. A sunken, longitudinally cracked form develops in the center.

3. On infected new branches, the diseased areas break easily. When the disease is severe, the parts above the lesions die off as well.

(2) Fruit

1. In the early stage of disease onset, only small dark brown spots appear, the size of a needle tip. At this point, attention must be paid.

2. After the middle stage, the lesions gradually expand to 5-10 mm in diameter, and their shape evolves into a sunken, irregularly round state. The color also changes from the initial brown to grayish black.

3. When exposed to humid air, the diseased areas show a pink sticky substance, which is the conidial spore mass.

4. A diseased fruit may have one or more lesions. Fruits that soften and drop early are mostly those that have contracted the disease.

II. Harm of persimmon anthracnose

1. As for anthracnose, its main harm is to persimmon fruit, as well as newly grown shoots and young leaves.

2. Among fruits, young fruit is especially harmed. After all, the immunity of young fruit is somewhat weaker compared with mature fruit.

3. The anthracnose pathogen is resistant to both cold and heat, making it more stubborn than other pathogens. It can hide in the diseased branches and diseased fruits of persimmon trees and safely survive the winter. When spring comes the next year and flowers bloom, the anthracnose disease begins to attack other new branches and young fruit again.

4. Starting every year in May and June, anthracnose enters its peak onset period, lasting until the harvest period in September and October.

5. The anthracnose pathogen is more active under conditions of high temperature or high humidity. And it is most likely to occur in rainy summer years, especially in the fifth to seventh lunar months. Under high temperature conditions, plus after a heavy rain, this disease! Begins to break out unchecked, becoming active to the extreme.
