How much does a boxwood sapling cost per plant? Grow it this way for fast growth
Boxwood grows very slowly. Boxwood wood is a good material for making combs and seals, and it also has certain medicinal value. The planting market is decent, so how much does a boxwood sapling cost per plant? How do you plant it so it grows fast?
1. How much does a boxwood sapling cost per plant?
1. The price of boxwood saplings
Generally, evergreen broadleaf tree saplings such as boxwood are low in price, mainly affected by the abundant supply of saplings and low prices in some southern provinces and cities. At present, the market price per plant is roughly between 0.5-5 yuan/plant. Generally speaking, boxwood sapling prices fluctuate greatly, and forest farmers do not have a fixed purchasing target, so they can flexibly take advantage of the price difference to reduce the cost of saplings for planting.
2. Selection of boxwood saplings
For afforestation, first-grade saplings with a ground diameter of more than 3.0cm and a seedling height of more than 3m should be selected. The saplings are required to be well developed, with a straight trunk form and a completely intact root system, and the main root length should reach more than 20cm. Saplings contaminated with pests and diseases, split, with broken main shoots, overly short root systems, dehydrated, dried up, or moldy and rotten are prohibited.
Saplings should be used as soon as they are dug up. Those that cannot be planted immediately should be heeled in, but the time should not be too long. For saplings transported locally, moisture preservation treatment must be carried out from digging to planting.
2. How do you plant boxwood saplings so they grow fast?
1. Soil requirements
Boxwood is a fast-growing species among deciduous broadleaf trees, and it grows best on alluvial soil that is deep, loose, fertile, moist, and well drained. The effective soil layer thickness should be greater than 1.0 m, and the soil texture should be relatively light, with light loam and sandy loam being best, medium loam and tight sand next. In addition, the suitable groundwater level for boxwood growth should be around 1.5 m, and during the growing period the groundwater level should be below 1 m and not lower than 2.5-3 m.
2. Water requirements
In summer, water during the hottest and driest weather. Too much watering can also easily cause the saplings to die. In early December at the end of the year, when the Korla area is about to enter winter, measures must be taken to keep the saplings warm and protect them in the planting area. Frames need to be set up manually and then wrapped on the outside with non-woven fabric to prevent windblown sand and cold wind from attacking the saplings. They can only be removed after mid-March of the 2nd year, when the air temperature and ground temperature have gradually shown a rising trend.
3. Temperature requirements
Boxwood is a subtropical and temperate tree species, produced in the central and northern provinces of China, and also distributed in Korea and Japan. It is cultivated in Dalian, Liaoning Province. Therefore, boxwood relatively prefers a warm environment, and in the Northeast region in winter it can only overwinter indoors or be given good cold protection and warmth measures.
4. Pest and disease control
Common insect pests include boxwood leafroller, citrus flatid planthopper, yellow scale, and bagworm moths. Common diseases include brown spot, leaf spot, and powdery mildew, and targeted timely control should be carried out.
