What are the cultivation methods and points to note for jasmine?
Jasmine flowers are pure white and fragrant, and many people grow a pot of jasmine at home, giving the house a natural floral scent, purifying the air and greening the environment. So what are the cultivation methods for jasmine and the aspects that need attention?
1. Jasmine cultivation methods
1. Keep sufficient sunlight: Jasmine loves sun, so during its growth it should be given sufficient light. Apart from shading it at noon in summer when the sunlight is strong, it can receive direct sunlight in all the other seasons. If it goes without light for a long time, the leaves of the jasmine will become very sparse, and the flowers will not be as fragrant.
2. Soil: Jasmine grows better in slightly acidic soil, so we can make our own potting soil, choosing garden soil: compost: sand: plant ash in a ratio of 4:4:2:1 for the mix. The best time to pot it is from April to May.
3. Watering: After planting the jasmine, water it thoroughly once, called the settling water, then place it in a shaded spot for care until it blooms from June to July, after which normal watering can be carried out. Generally, in spring when new branches sprout, water about once every two days; when it blooms in June, a large amount of water needs to be replenished, watering once every day; in winter, watering should be controlled, keeping the potting soil slightly dry.
4. Fertilizing: From late spring to early autumn, the jasmine needs to be fertilized. During the flowering period, apply liquid fertilizer containing more phosphorus, once every 2 to 3 days. Fertilizer liquid made from decomposed soybean cake and fish waste water can be used, or superphosphate can be used. Note that the concentration should not be too high, otherwise it will cause root burn in the jasmine.
5. Pruning: Before the jasmine begins rapid growth in spring, cut off its old branches and dead branches, which can encourage it to sprout more new branches. After the jasmine blooms in summer, shorten the branches that have finished flowering to prevent them from growing leggily and consuming the plant's nutrients.
2. Aspects to note for jasmine
1. Temperature: Jasmine is very afraid of cold, so before the Frost's Descent solar term it should be moved indoors to a sunny spot for care. The room temperature should preferably not be lower than 8°C. If the temperature is too low, a plastic bag can be put over it to keep it warm. Note that the jasmine must not be exposed to strong winds, otherwise it will fail to bloom.
2. Keep it ventilated: The main reason many jasmines develop pests and diseases is improper ventilation. If the jasmine is cared for indoors, it is best to often move it to a ventilated place for care. Being indoors with no air circulation for a long time easily causes the jasmine to develop various pests and diseases.
Jasmine is relatively simple to grow, and its ornamental value is very high. You can also, after the jasmine blooms, cut off the flowers and put them in a vase, which can also keep the home fragrant.
