Where exactly is the origin of grapes?
The famous poet Li Bai once wrote: “Viewed from afar, the Han River is green like a duck's head, just like grape juice newly fermenting.” Since ancient times, grapes have been a fruit people love. So where is the origin of grapes?
Grapes originated in the regions of Europe, West Asia and North Africa. According to archaeological data, the earliest area where grapes were cultivated was the region of Asia Minor between the Caspian Sea and the Black Sea and along their southern shores. About 7000 years ago, the regions of the South Caucasus, Central Asia, Syria and Iraq also began to cultivate grapes. Most historians believe that Persia (that is, present-day Iran) was the earliest country to make wine. The earliest country in Europe to begin growing grapes and making wine was Greece.
