Benthiocarb (thiobencarb) is a selective herbicide used fairly widely on crops such as rice, soybean and peanut, so how is benthiocarb used in direct-seeded fields?

1. Basic introduction to benthiocarb

Benthiocarb is a systemic, translaminar selective herbicide, poorly soluble in water and readily soluble in organic solvents; it is absorbed mainly through weed roots and young shoots and is used as a soil-treatment agent; it is safe for rice and gives excellent control of barnyardgrass.

Benthiocarb is suitable for many crops, such as rice, wheat, soybean, peanut, corn, vegetable fields and orchards; its targets include barnyardgrass, needle spikerush, Cyperus difformis, Chinese sprangletop, crabgrass, goosegrass, foxtail, rice flatsedge, purslane and shortawn foxtail.

2. How is benthiocarb used in direct-seeded fields?

Apply before sowing or after sowing at the 2-3 leaf stage of the rice seedlings; the dosage of benthiocarb is 200-300 ml of 50% EC per mu, applied by mixing with 35 kg of water as a spray.

In addition, benthiocarb can also be used in seedling fields, wheat fields and transplanted-rice fields:

1. Seedling field

Apply before sowing or at the needle stage of rice, using 150-250 ml of 50% EC per mu, or 960-1500 g of 10% granules, broadcast as a poisoned-soil application. Keep a water layer of 2-3 cm for 5-7 days. Reduce the dosage when temperatures are high or the field is covered with plastic film.

2. Wheat field

After sowing and before emergence, use 300 ml of 50% EC per mu, mixed with 35 kg of water, and spray evenly over the soil surface.

3. Transplanted-rice field

3-7 days after rice transplanting, when barnyardgrass is at the peak of germination up to before the 2-leaf stage, use 200-250 ml of 50% EC per mu, mixed with 35 kg of water, or mixed with 20 kg of fine moist soil, and spray or broadcast evenly. Alternatively, use 1-1.5 kg of 10% granules mixed with fine moist soil or chemical fertilizer and broadcast evenly. Keep a water layer of 3-5 cm for 5-7 days. Let it dry naturally; do not drain.

3. Precautions for use

1. At the time of application, all weeds should be before the 2-leaf stage, otherwise the efficacy decreases.

3. Sandy fields or leaky fields are not suitable for benthiocarb. Organic matter content

2. Sandy fields or leaky fields are not suitable for benthiocarb. For soils with high organic matter content, the dosage should be increased appropriately.

3. When using in paddy fields, be sure to pay attention to maintaining water quality.
