What are the functions and effects of thiophanate-methyl?
Thiophanate-methyl is a broad-spectrum systemic low-toxicity fungicide, and it is a sterilizing agent commonly used by farmers. So what are the functions of thiophanate-methyl?
1. Functions of thiophanate-methyl
1. Control of vegetable diseases: To control cucumber powdery mildew and anthracnose, and gray mold, anthracnose, and sclerotinia rot on eggplant, onion, celery, tomato, common bean, etc., use a 50% wettable powder at 1000-1500 times dilution. At the early stage of disease onset, spray once every 7-10 days for 3-4 consecutive sprays; to control lettuce gray mold and sclerotinia rot, spray with a 50% wettable powder at 700 times dilution.
2. Control of flower diseases: It has a certain control effect on dahlia flower rot, rose brown spot, crabapple gray leaf spot, and clivia leaf spot. Generally, at the early stage of disease onset, use 83-125 grams of 50% wettable powder per mu, dilute with water for conventional spraying, for a total of 3-5 sprays.
3. Control of fruit tree diseases: For apple ring rot and anthracnose, spray with a 50% wettable powder at 400-600 times dilution, once every 10 days; for grape brown spot, anthracnose, gray mold, peach brown rot, etc., spray with a 50% wettable powder at 600-800 times dilution; for penicillium and green mold in citrus storage, immediately after citrus picking, use a 40% suspension concentrate at 400-600 times dilution, soak the fruit for 2-3 minutes, remove, air-dry, and pack into crates.
4. Control of cereal diseases: For cereal smut, use 200 grams of 50% wettable powder plus 4 kg of water to treat 100 kg of seed, then cover the seed for 6 hours; for fusarium head blight of the three cereals, spray once at the beginning of flowering, and spray a second time after 5-7 days, using 75-100 grams of 50% wettable powder per mu each time.
5. Control of diseases of other crops: For tobacco and mulberry powdery mildew, spray with a 50% wettable powder solution at 300-400 mg/kg; for peanut leaf spot, during the peak disease period, spray with a 50% wettable powder solution at 200-250 mg/kg, with a 2-week interval, for 3 applications; for sweet potato black rot, soak seed potatoes in a 50% wettable powder solution at 500-1000 mg/kg for 10 minutes.
2. Precautions for use
1. Thiophanate-methyl can be mixed with many pesticides, but it must not be mixed with alkaline or copper-containing formulations such as lime sulfur mixture, Bordeaux mixture, and copper hydroxide.
2. When preparing the spray solution, first mix the required amount of the agent with a small amount of water into a paste, then add enough water and stir thoroughly until the solution is uniformly milky white.
3. Thiophanate-methyl should be used immediately after preparation, and the solution should be stirred constantly during use to keep it uniform.
4. If thiophanate-methyl is used alone continuously over a long period, pathogens will develop resistance, reducing the control effect, so it should be used in rotation with other agents.
Before using thiophanate-methyl, it is best to use it according to the instructions to avoid misuse or improper use.
