Stylosanthes belongs to the legume family and is an excellent grass species for over-seeding and improving natural grasslands and for soil and water conservation, and it is also an important forage resource in tropical regions. It was first introduced to China in the 1960s, and currently the largest cultivated areas are in Hainan, Guangdong, Guangxi, Fujian and Yunnan.
