How to grow garlic sprouts in a greenhouse? Detailed planting methods and timing
Garlic sprout leaves are fresh green, neither yellow nor rotting, with white fibrous roots that do not wither, and a fairly strong spicy flavor, making them an indispensable seasoning in dishes. Currently, growing garlic sprouts in greenhouses is quite common. So, what are the planting methods and timing for greenhouse garlic sprouts?
1. Building the frame beds
The frame beds are built with wood, straw, plastic film, wire and red bricks, etc. The greenhouse is low at the front and back and high in the middle; the front and back sections have 2 tiers of frame beds, and the middle section has 3 tiers. Build a wall 10 cm high with single bricks, with a spacing of 1.2-1.6 m between walls, then use wooden poles to build frame beds 1-3 m wide and of unlimited length, with a spacing of 20-30 cm between wooden poles. On the tier level, at 80-100 cm from the tier surface, use wooden poles to frame a bed 80-90 cm wide. Lay a layer of plastic film on each tier, cover the film with 5-6 cm thick sandy loam soil, and pat the soil firm. During the process of setting up the frame beds, be sure to bury them firmly and tie them tightly to prevent the frame beds from collapsing.
2. Selecting garlic seed
Choose varieties with large and numerous cloves, high yield, a short dormancy period, and fast sprouting and growth. Generally, planting is carried out in spring and autumn.
3. Preparation before sowing
Choose varieties with large and numerous cloves, high yield, a short dormancy period, and fast sprouting and growth. Soak the garlic seed in warm water at 30°C-50°C for about 30 hours, so that the garlic bulbs absorb water and swell. Then scoop them out, drain the water, pile them up and let them sweat for about 12 hours, then dig out the garlic stems. If the sowing area is large and the amount of seed soaked is large, you can also sow one week earlier without digging out the stems.
4. Arranging the garlic and pressing the soil
Arrange and bury about 15 kg of garlic cloves per square meter; the tighter the cloves are arranged against one another, the better, and fill larger gaps with smaller cloves. After the cloves are arranged, cover them with 3 cm thick fine sandy soil and pat firm, and spray the surface with a 600-fold dilution of Xin Gaozhi film to improve the seedling emergence rate.
5. Water management
Water the garlic sprouts with a diluted Xin Gaozhi film solution at a temperature not lower than 15°C. After planting until the early growth stage, water heavily; at the middle stage when the seedlings are about 15 cm tall, water moderately; at the late growth stage, 3-4 days before harvest, water lightly. The number of waterings should depend on the moisture conditions of the soil on the frame beds.
6. Temperature and light
Keep the greenhouse film surface clean to improve light transmittance, so as to obtain more light duration. Also spray a photosynthetic nutrient film fertilizer, which can help the garlic sprouts absorb a large amount of light energy and also provides the nutrition of conventional fertilizers, so that the garlic sprouts grow and develop better.
7. Timely harvesting
When the garlic sprouts grow to a height of about 35 cm and the seedling leaves tilt slightly, this is the suitable harvest period, and they should be harvested promptly at this time. After the stubble of garlic sprouts is harvested, use the same management methods as above, and new garlic sprouts can grow again after 20 days. When the new garlic sprouts grow to about 30 cm, they can be harvested and sold again. With such cyclic management and harvesting, 3-4 crops can be harvested continuously.
Garlic sprouts have fairly vigorous vitality, so they are not difficult to grow, and about 50 days after sowing, fresh tender garlic sprouts can be harvested in batches successively for market.
