Qimin 6 is a new winter wheat variety bred through cooperation between the Zibo HeFeng Seed Industry Agricultural Science Research Institute and the Zibo City Seed Management Station. So what specific characteristics of this Qimin 6 wheat variety can be highlighted? Let's take a look together.

1. Introduction to the Qimin 6 Wheat Variety

Qimin 6 is a wheat variety with high yield, drought resistance and disease resistance. Its plant type is semi-compact, with green leaves that are relatively broad and large; it is fairly resistant to lodging and has good ripening appearance. It is resistant to slow stripe rust, moderately resistant to powdery mildew, moderately susceptible to scab and sheath blight, and highly susceptible to leaf rust. It has good cold resistance over winter and relatively good drought resistance. The average protein content of the grain is 13.5%, wet gluten 31.4%, sedimentation value 39.1mL, water absorption 59.9mL/100g, stability time 10.8min, and flour whiteness 74.4.

2. Key Cultivation Techniques for the Qimin 6 Wheat Variety

1. Seed treatment

Before sowing, carefully select and air-dry the seeds, and treat them with insecticides, fungicides and growth regulators as a seed dressing or coating, which can effectively prevent soil-borne and seed-borne diseases as well as underground pests.

2. Application of base fertilizer

For plots with medium to high fertility, apply per 667 sq m of base fertilizer 14kg urea, 7.5kg phosphate fertilizer (P2O5), 3.75kg potassium fertilizer (K2O) and 1kg zinc sulfate. Where conditions allow, apply 2-3 cu m of decomposed organic fertilizer per 667 sq m.

3. Sowing management

Determine the sowing date according to the local long-term average accumulated temperature. The suitable sowing period is October 5—15. Qimin 6 is a multi-spike variety, so the sowing rate should not be too high on plots with medium to high fertility and water supply; the basic seedling count should be 120,000-150,000 per 667 sq m (sowing rate 6.8-8.5kg per 667 sq m). On dry fertile land and water-saving planting plots, the sowing rate should be appropriately increased to ensure a basic seedling count of 150,000-180,000 per 667 sq m (sowing rate 8.5-10kg per 667 sq m).

4. Management before winter

2-3d after emergence, replant promptly; for plots with gaps in the rows exceeding 10cm, promptly replant with the same wheat seed that has been soaked to promote germination.

In early to mid-November, carry out chemical weed control promptly. There are many types of wheat herbicides, so choose a suitable herbicide according to the weed type, dilute with 30-35kg water, and spray evenly. Do not spray when the temperature is below 10°C.

5. Pest and disease control

At the late flowering stage and grain-filling stage of wheat, promptly control aphids, scab and leaf rust to ensure increased wheat yield.

6. Later-stage management

After flowering, every 6-7d, along with pest and disease control, spray foliar fertilizer to extend the functional period of the leaves, promote grain filling and increase yield.

7. Timely harvest

Harvest at the late dough stage. The use of combine harvesters is recommended, with the wheat straw returned to the field.
