How to Grow Soybeans: Planting Methods and Key Technical Points Explained

Soybean is a kind of legume and also the most primitive form of legumes. Soybean is quite versatile in our daily life, and many things are made with soybean as the raw material, making it very popular in the market. So how do you grow soybeans?

How to grow soybeans

1. Soybeans are relatively easy to grow. To achieve high yields, it is best to choose fertile, loose, well-drained soil as the planting site. Deeply plow and prepare the seedbed, and spread an appropriate amount of farmyard manure as base fertilizer.

2. Sow the soybean seeds on the prepared seedbed, keeping a spacing of about 30-50 cm between each plant. Water the seedbed before sowing, and cover the seeds with soil after sowing. When the seedlings reach 4-5 cm, they can be transplanted and established.

3. After transplanting and establishing, irrigate the entire soybean field once. One week later, weed and fertilize the soybeans, then water again. The fertilizers applied are generally compound fertilizer and urea. The second fertilization should be done when the soybeans bloom and form pods; to ensure plump pods, some phosphorus and potassium fertilizer can be applied.

4. The soybean hawkmoth (Clanis bilineata) damages soybean leaves. When the pest infestation is severe, it can strip the plants bare, preventing them from forming pods. At this point, a fenvalerate solution should be sprayed immediately for control.

5. Root rot often occurs at the seedling stage. When affected, brown oval lesions appear at the base of the stem, slightly sunken, and as the disease worsens the stem base rots, which can severely lead to plant death. Once discovered, spray immediately with agents such as Duokefu, Soybean Micro-Compound Fertilizer No. 1, and Fuduofu for control.
