Detailed Introduction to the Characteristics of the Longgao L2 Corn Seed Variety
The Longgao L2 corn seed was bred by the High-Yield Breeding Laboratory of the Corn Research Institute of the Heilongjiang Academy of Agricultural Sciences. It was approved by the Heilongjiang Provincial Variety Approval Committee in 2004. At present, the operating rights of this variety belong to Heilongjiang Qingyuan Seed Industry. The characteristics of this corn seed are a plant height of about 2.7 m, a cylindrical ear, and about 18-22 rows of kernels. Under appropriate cultivation conditions, the yield can reach more than 1000 kg. It is a must-choose variety for the “one ton of grain per small mu” high-yield trial.
Variety Characteristics
The corn seed Longgao L2 has a plant height of about 2.7 m, an ear position of 120 cm, a cylindrical ear, about 18——22 rows of kernels, about 45 kernels per row, a 100-kernel weight of 35 g, dent-type kernels, orange-yellow in color, a test weight of 751 g, and vitreous grain. Under appropriate cultivation conditions, the yield can reach more than 1000 kg. It is a must-choose variety for the “one ton of grain per small mu” high-yield trial.
The plant type of Longgao L2 is semi-compact, so it has a relatively large overall advantage in terms of ventilation and light transmission. It is highly resistant to northern corn leaf blight, head smut, corn smut, and bacterial wilt. Its main root is thick and strong, its aerial roots are well developed, and its stalk is thick and strong. The well-developed root system and thick, strong stalk give Longgao L2 extremely strong drought resistance and lodging resistance. Longgao L2 corn seed matures with living stalks. From early spring to late autumn, the stalk always remains dark green.
In recent years, the promotion range of this variety has increased year by year, and its relatively strong lodging resistance and high yield have gradually gained recognition. In 2009, this variety still achieved stable yields in some areas of Heilongjiang Province with many consecutive rainy days, low temperature and insufficient sunlight, and frequent hail disasters. In some areas, the planting range of this variety reached 70% of the local corn planting area.
In 2010, a strong wind in the Mishan area on August 14 blew down 90% of corn varieties, and a considerable number of corn varieties suffered severe yield reductions, while Longgao L2 basically had no lodging, showing that its lodging resistance is relatively strong.
In terms of yield, Longgao L2 performs outstandingly in high yield. Statistical data in recent years show that Longgao L2 has turned “one ton of grain per small mu” into reality and made it the norm.
