When to sow potted strawberries? Care for them this way for more fruit
Strawberry is a sweet-and-sour, delicious fruit with a rich fruity fragrance that smells comforting. Strawberries have high nutritional value, and their price is one of the higher ones among fruits. Besides being grown in greenhouses, strawberries can also be grown as potted miniature plants, very attractive. So when should potted strawberries be sown? How should they be grown to bear more fruit?
1. When should potted strawberries be sown?
Generally speaking, the main factor affecting strawberry planting is temperature. As the temperature changes with region, from south to north, the temperature gets lower and lower, and the sowing time also gets earlier and earlier. The suitable sowing time for strawberries is concentrated between August and October. According to the growth mechanism of strawberries, starting from January of the following year, strawberries can gradually be picked.
However, if strawberries are grown as potted plants at home, the sowing time is actually quite flexible. Because growing potted strawberries at home is only to meet one's own needs, and the growing environment is still relatively easy to control, so as long as an environment suitable for strawberry growth can be created, they can be sown at any time.
2. How should potted strawberries be grown to bear more fruit?
1. Before planting strawberries, choose a pot with a hole in the bottom, because that hole is for drainage. In fact, idle flower pots at home can be used. If there really are none, buy a few flower pots specially for strawberries. It is best not to buy plastic ones. Because if the plastic is not good, it may bring adverse contamination to the strawberries we grow. After choosing the flower pot, also choose soil suitable for growing strawberries. In fact, strawberries are not so strict about soil requirements. As long as the soil is relatively loose, breathable, and somewhat nutritious, it is fine. Generally, leaf mold soil from the garden is enough.
2. Put the soil into the flower pot. Generally, it is recommended to buy strawberry seedlings for planting, which is faster and saves time compared with growing them from strawberry seeds. In fact, potted strawberries can be planted in spring, summer, and autumn every year. However, planting strawberries in autumn is easier, because autumn weather is more suitable for growing strawberries. Bury the purchased strawberry seedlings into the soil in the flower pot. If the flower pot is small, plant 1 or 2; a larger flower pot can hold 2 more. The seedlings must not be too close to each other; they need some growing space.
3. After the strawberry seedlings are planted, water them thoroughly, then place them in a sunny and ventilated place. You can choose to place them directly on a south-facing balcony. The next period of time requires caring for them well. They are the same as all plants and must be watered on time, and the soil in their pots must be kept moist.
4. When potted strawberries produce small strawberries, apply compound fertilizer about every ten days. If you want them to grow well, sunlight is certainly indispensable, so be sure to put them in a sunny place. If winter comes, put them indoors, because their best growing temperature is 21 to 26 degrees, and if the temperature is lower than 10 degrees, it will cause some harm to the growth of the seedlings.
