A type of chestnut pumpkin has been very popular this year and is deeply loved by people who are losing weight. Its taste is very sweet, soft and glutinous, with a delicate texture. Its sugar content is mainly xylose, which the human body does not absorb, and it can also effectively promote metabolism. As a new small-fruited early-maturing pumpkin variety, let's take a look below at the introduction to the cultivation techniques of the internet-famous food chestnut pumpkin.

1. Choose a suitable planting time

For chestnut pumpkin, the planting season should be arranged appropriately. Generally speaking, July to August in the south is the rainy season, so if continuous overcast and rainy weather occurs during this period, the fruit-setting rate of chestnut pumpkin is very low. Therefore, in terms of planting and harvesting time, it should be properly arranged so that it can be harvested in July or before the end of July. On the one hand, this improves the economic benefits of pumpkin production, and on the other hand, it frees up the land as early as possible for the next crop. It is recommended to sow in early to mid-April. If direct seeding is used, plastic film mulching can be adopted to avoid the problem of delayed growth caused by low temperatures in the early stage.

2. Choose excellent varieties

Because the chestnut pumpkin itself has a relatively small fruit, even if the fruit-setting node is moved backward, the pumpkin fruit will not become larger. This point is still quite different from watermelon, and delaying pumpkin fruit setting will also waste nutrients and expose the plant to high-temperature and rainy weather later. Therefore, when choosing chestnut pumpkin varieties for planting, it is recommended to choose pumpkins with lower fruit-setting nodes. In addition, it is necessary to choose pumpkins with strong stress resistance and excellent overall traits.

3. Fertilization management

Chestnut pumpkin has a relatively large demand for fertilizer and water, so the base fertilizer must be sufficient when planting. Use 1000 kg of farmyard manure per mu, supplemented by urea, potassium sulfate, and phosphate fertilizer. Of course, 15-20 kg of ternary compound fertilizer can also be chosen. After emergence, in order to ensure healthy plant growth, a vine-promoting fertilizer is generally applied after transplanting, by punching holes in the ground at a distance of 10-20 cm from the pumpkin roots and applying fertilizer. In addition, when the chestnut pumpkin begins to set fruit and expand, expanding fertilizer should be applied in time.

4. Field water management

Pumpkin has a relatively weak ability to resist waterlogging. If rainy weather occurs during the growing period, the field needs to be drained in time. Also, when the pumpkin is about to flower, attention should be paid to controlling the amount of fertilizer and water, especially the amount of nitrogen fertilizer, to avoid excessive vegetative growth and the problem of too few female flower buds.

5. Pest and disease management

The main pumpkin diseases include powdery mildew, damping-off, and Rhizoctonia rot, among which the latter two may be the most harmful. The occurrence of pumpkin diseases is greatly related to field management. When field humidity is high, diseases are more likely to occur, so controlling field humidity is key. Leaves and seedlings affected in the field should be cut off in time and taken out of the field. After disease occurs, carbendazim, chlorothalonil, and Previcur can be sprayed for control. As for pests such as whiteflies, aphids, and leafminers in the field, imidacloprid can be used for control.
