What are the other names of white peony? With an introduction to planting methods and timing
White peony is a common Chinese medicinal herb, mainly distributed on hillsides, in stream valleys and mountains in Sichuan, Tibet, Hunan, Guangxi and other places in China. Below we will take a look at the introduction to questions such as what the other names of white peony are, planting methods, and planting timing.
1. What are the other names of white peony?
White peony is called differently in different places. For example, in Yunnan Province it is called Qianniansheng; in Sichuan Province it is called Naijiangteng; in Chuxiong, Yunnan it is called white peony; in Kunming, Yunnan it is called Qingyangshen, Qingyangshen, Baicen; in Lijiang, Yunnan it is called Baiyao. In addition, the scientific name of white peony is Qingyangshen.
Among the people, white peony is mainly used to treat rheumatism arthritis, rheumatic cold pain, lumbar muscle strain, limb cramps, physical weakness and mental decline, chronic infantile convulsion, dog bites and other conditions.
2. Introduction to the planting methods and timing of white peony
1. Planting time of white peony
For planting white peony, sowing is generally carried out from September to November. In late August, collect plump and mature white peony seeds. If they are not sown in time, mix the seeds with moist yellow sand and place them in a cool and ventilated place. By late September, they can be sown. Generally, it takes two to three years before the seedlings can be planted out.
2. Planting methods of white peony
(1) Soil selection
The soil for planting white peony is required to be highly fertile, loose and well-structured, with a deep soil layer. In addition, a planting site with good light transmission, good ventilation and strong drainage should be selected and deeply plowed. After deep plowing, apply 2500~4000kg of barnyard manure or compost per mu as base fertilizer in combination with plowing, and rake the soil smooth.
(2) Planting density
When planting white peony, appropriate close planting should be carried out, specifically distinguished according to the size of the buds. The plant spacing is about 50*30cm, and one to two buds are placed in each hole, with the buds placed upward.
Because the buds of white peony are of different heights, it is best to keep the buds three to six centimeters above the ground. Cover them with turf ash, apply a certain amount of human manure and urine, and then cover with a thin layer of fine soil piled into a steamed bun shape to help them pass through winter smoothly. By early March of the following year, after the white peony buds sprout, level the ground, keeping only about five centimeters of covering soil.
Generally, one mu of land can plant four to five thousand seedlings.
The transplanting method for seedlings of white peony propagated by seeds is the same as above. Note that when lifting the white peony seedlings, avoid touching and damaging the roots.
(3) Key points of fertilization
When the base fertilizer is sufficient, white peony generally does not need additional fertilization in the first year. However, from the second year onward, it must be topdressed three times each year. The three topdressings are respectively from late March to early April, applying human manure; the second is in late April, applying human manure and urine; the third is from October to November each year, applying pen manure.
