The ostrich is a bird of enormous size, and its feathers, skin, meat, eggs and so on all have very high economic value, but the ostrich farming market in our country is still relatively small at present, so what are the prospects for ostrich farming in 2020? What licenses are needed to farm ostriches?

1. What are the prospects for ostrich farming?

The ostrich is a treasure from head to toe; its feathers, skin, meat, eggs and so on all have very high economic value, there are quite a few profit-making items, and the economic value is also relatively high. Add to this the fact that relatively few people in our country currently farm ostriches, and the market prospects are fairly large. Ostriches have strong adaptability, and the farming cost is also relatively low, making this an emerging farming industry.

2. The cost of farming ostriches

1. Feed: each ostrich needs 300 kg of concentrated feed per year, which at 2 yuan per kg comes to 600 yuan; green forage, mainly immature corn stalks and leaves, sweet sorghum and the like, requires about 300 yuan per bird per year, for a total feed investment of 900 yuan.

2. Other: amortization and depreciation of various infrastructure facilities (water, electricity, site, fencing, equipment, etc.) at 100 yuan per bird per year, feed additives at 100 yuan per bird, and epidemic prevention, disinfection and contingency costs at 200 yuan per bird.

3. Total: buying a young ostrich costs 300 yuan each; 900 yuan + 100 yuan + 100 yuan + 200 yuan + 300 yuan = 1900 yuan; raising one ostrich for a year requires an investment of 1600 yuan.

3. The profit from farming ostriches

1. Ostrich meat: a young bird can reach more than 100 kg in 10 months; ostrich meat sells for between 70 and 80 yuan per kg; if the meat yield is calculated at 45%, each ostrich can produce 36 kg of ostrich meat, with an output value of about 3150 yuan.

2. Ostrich eggs: one ostrich can lay 50 to 60 eggs per year, and one ostrich egg generally sells for more than 40 to 60 yuan, giving an output value of 2500 yuan.

3. Ostrich skin: each ostrich skin sells for between 800 and 1500 yuan depending on grade, and the output value is calculated at 1000 yuan.

4. Total profit: raising one ostrich for a year can bring in 3150 yuan + 2500 yuan + 1000 yuan = 6650 yuan; profit = 6650 yuan - 1600 yuan = 5050 yuan.

4. What licenses are needed to farm ostriches?

To farm ostriches you need to obtain a Wildlife Domestication and Breeding License and a Wildlife Business License from the forestry department. Without these two licenses, selling and transporting them are illegal, and once caught you will have them confiscated, be fined or even face a criminal sentence. Moreover, farms selling special animals must also have an Animal Epidemic Prevention Qualification Certificate issued by the animal husbandry department, otherwise they are violating regulations, the products cannot be used for breeding, and there will also be problems in future production and sales.
