How to grow a pomegranate bonsai? Remember these 5 cultivation methods
People living in cities today who want to grow flowers and plants, since they have no land, growing flowers and grass in pots is a hobby for many people, adding fun and beauty to life. Today the Tuliu.com editor will share with you the care methods for pomegranate bonsai.
1. Choosing a flower pot
You need to put effort into choosing the pot. According to the size of the pomegranate seedling, as some pomegranate seedlings have been dwarfed, and taking drainage and breathability into account, use a clay pot, or a more expensive ceramic pot or purple clay pot.
2. Planting method
Plant the pomegranate sapling into the pot. First cover the drainage hole with broken tile pieces or broken bricks, then fill soil to half the height of the pot. Place the pomegranate seedling in, continue filling soil until the pomegranate sapling is covered, and pat the soil flat with a shovel.
3. Light intensity
The pomegranate is a sun-loving plant that likes light and fears shade. During normal care, keep sufficient light. Therefore, choose a sunny spot for its placement, and ensure sufficient light throughout the growing season. Sufficient light promotes plant growth and affects flower bud formation and blooming.
4. Pruning and shaping
In the first few years after planting, roughly prune the tree shape. After 3-4 years, prune lightly before the pomegranate tree goes dormant, and do shaping pruning before spring sprouting.
5. Field management
The pomegranate sapling tolerates poor soil but likes fertilizer, so plant it in loose, breathable, fertile sandy soil. During the growing period, apply thin fertilizer frequently, mainly phosphorus and potassium.
After late autumn, when the temperature drops the leaves turn yellow, and at this time the branches are also full of fruit. During dormancy, remove the fruit to reduce nutrient consumption of the fruiting branches and help new branches and leaves grow in early spring the next year.
The pomegranate sapling is not strict about water and can tolerate drought. Use less water rather than more. Too much water easily causes excessive growth, and the fruit skin easily cracks, affecting its appearance.
