Key Points for Growing the Anemone, Israel's National Flower
Israel is a moderately developed capitalist country with outstanding contributions in engineering and scientific research. Israel is located in the Palestine region of western Asia, and the Negev Desert covers more than half of its land area. So what is Israel's national flower? Is it the anemone? What are the key points for growing it?
1. What is Israel's national flower? Is it the anemone?
Israel's national flower is the anemone, also known as the Anemone cathayensis, the Anemone cathayensis var. hispida, or the woolly anemone. The anemone is commonly found on mountain grassy slopes or hillsides at an altitude of 1,000 to 2,000 m. It likes to grow in environments with sufficient light, cool temperatures and moisture, and it is neither cold-tolerant nor heat-tolerant.
The flowers of the anemone look like little white elves, with a regular flower shape, and half of them bloom from April to July. The anemone is deeply loved by flower growers and is very suitable for decorating courtyards or growing in indoor pots.
2. What are the key points for growing anemones?
1. Choose a suitable variety
There are many varieties of anemones, so you should choose a suitable variety according to your growing needs, region and so on.
2. Planting time
Anemones are suitable for planting from September to November. If you are in the northern region, they should be grown in greenhouses, with good management of insulation, shading and ventilation.
3. Soil requirements
To grow anemones, choose a plot with sufficient light and loose, well-draining, well-aerated, deep soil rich in humus that is slightly acidic or neutral. Before planting, apply sufficient basal fertilizer; adding a certain amount of leaf mold can improve the soil structure and benefit the early growth of the anemone.
4. Seed treatment
Before planting, anemone corms are shriveled in shape, so they should be soaked in clean water for one to two days in advance to let the corms absorb water and swell. After soaking, clean them properly and remove the soil and impurities on the surface. After soaking, the corms should be disinfected and then packaged. Low temperatures can be used to promote rooting and sprouting of anemone corms.
5. Planting out
Once the anemone corms have rooted and sprouted buds of one or two cm, they can be planted out. During planting out, keep the soil and water moist, pay attention to the planting depth and row spacing, and water thoroughly after planting out to prevent plant death.
6. Water and fertilizer
In the early stage after planting out, anemones should be shaded, and the soil should not be too moist during the seedling emergence stage, so as to avoid root rot. Once the anemone plants have grown five or six true leaves, the first topdressing can be carried out. Afterwards, arrange the amount of watering and fertilizing reasonably according to the growth of the anemone, the soil moisture, the season and so on.
7. Key points for harvesting
Anemones only open during the day, so it is more reasonable to harvest in the morning before they open, and they must be harvested only after they have opened once. After cut flowers are harvested, they should be put into clean water immediately to absorb water.
