Best Planting Time and Key Fertilization Techniques for Panax notoginseng
Panax notoginseng, also known as Tianqi, ginseng notoginseng, Shen notoginseng, and Wenzhou notoginseng, is a relatively common Chinese medicinal herb with effects such as promoting blood circulation, resolving blood stasis, and stopping bleeding. Panax notoginseng has relatively high requirements for the growing environment, and is generally harvested before flowering in autumn. Let us take a look belowWhen is the best time to plant Panax notoginseng? What are the key points of fertilization techniques?
1. When is the best time to plant Panax notoginseng?
Panax notoginseng is also a plant with relatively distinct seasons, so before planting, you must choose the planting time well, otherwise it can be quite temperamental. If you are in the southern region of our country, then Panax notoginseng is generally sown in winter, that is, from the end of November to December each year. But if the region where you are located is in the northern region of our country, then it should be sown in spring, that is, around March or April. The sowing time is generally determined according to different regions.
2. What are the key points of fertilization techniques for Panax notoginseng?
Fertilization of Panax notoginseng focuses on the principles of base fertilizer and topdressing, mutual coordination of various fertilizers and nutrients, and timely application of foliar fertilizer. Cultivation of high-quality Panax notoginseng must be based mainly on farmyard manure, supplemented by a small amount of compound fertilizer, with a nitrogen, phosphorus, and potassium ratio of 2:1:3 being preferable. Excessive application of nitrogen fertilizer will cause a decline in the quality of Panax notoginseng. For base fertilizer, it is recommended to apply 2500-4000 kg/mu of farmyard manure. Topdressing should be carried out from June to September. For foliar fertilizer, Yangkang biological fertilizer, Huimanfeng active biological fertilizer, potassium dihydrogen phosphate, and urea are relatively good.
During the field management period, fertilize at least 4—5 times per year, and up to 7—8 times. Topdress about once every 1—2 months. The first application is about 150 jin of plant ash and 500 jin of turf ash, carried out when 70% of seedlings have emerged. The second application is around April, at the leaf expansion stage, applying 200 jin of mixed fertilizer per mu (30 jin of cattle bone meal and 50 jin of superphosphate, applied after fermentation). The third application is in May, applying 200 jin of mixed fertilizer. The fourth application is in July, applying green manure (chop the green manure and compost it for fermentation), and evenly spread the fermented green manure on the bed surface. During the seedling stage of Panax notoginseng, urea can also be applied to promote seedling growth, in small amounts and multiple times; during the flowering and fruiting stage, phosphorus and potassium fertilizer should be applied more. Fertilize at least 4 to 5 times per year, with topdressing about once every 1 to 2 months, each time about 30 kg per mu. The method is manual spreading. During fertilization, some fertilizer falls on the leaves of Panax notoginseng and will burn the leaves, so when fertilizing, use a wooden stick to lightly tap the leaves so that the fertilizer falls to the ground, which avoids burning the leaves and also increases the utilization rate of the fertilizer. Fertilization adopts broadcasting, then stir the straw covering the bed surface so that the fertilizer falls onto the bed surface. Keep the soil moist, with a water content of 25-30% being suitable. If drought occurs, water in the evening.
1. One-year-old Panax notoginseng
Base fertilizer: compound fertilizer (with a high-nitrogen, medium-phosphorus, medium-potassium formula or a balanced type) 50 kg/mu; from April to June, apply liquid fertilizer once (high nitrogen, medium phosphorus, low potassium) 5 kg/mu; from June to August, spray potassium dihydrogen phosphate once; from August to October, apply liquid fertilizer twice (low nitrogen, medium phosphorus, high potassium) at 5 kg/mu each time.
2. Two-year-old to three-year-old Panax notoginseng
Base fertilizer: compound fertilizer (with a high-nitrogen, medium-phosphorus, medium-potassium formula or a balanced type) 50 kg/mu; from April to June, apply liquid fertilizer twice (high nitrogen, medium phosphorus, low potassium) at 5 kg/mu each time; from June to August, apply liquid fertilizer once (low nitrogen, medium phosphorus, high potassium) 5 kg/mu + spray medium and trace elements (500 times); from August to October, apply liquid fertilizer twice (high potassium) at 5 kg/mu each time + spray medium and trace elements once (500 times).
