With the arrival of spring, the temperature gets warmer and warmer, and many people's kalanchoes grown on the balcony also need repotting. So how do you repot a kalanchoe, and what precautions are there? Let's take a look below.

1. Repotting time

Repotting time is also one of the precautions for repotting kalanchoe. Kalanchoe cannot be repotted at just any time; it is best to repot kalanchoe in spring or autumn, that is, in spring from March to May or in autumn in October, which are the two periods with the highest survival rate after repotting. Never repot in summer or winter. These two seasons, one with high temperatures and one with low temperatures, are both periods when kalanchoe growth stalls, and repotting at these times is not good for survival.

2. Repotting precautions

1. Pay attention to pruning: kalanchoe has strong growth, so it needs proper pruning when repotting. Promptly cut off dead branches, diseased and pest-infested branches, and useless growing branches on the stems. This helps the plant concentrate its nutrients. In addition, the root system should also be treated by removing part of the soil and cutting off the rotten roots and dead roots around the root ball to ensure the survival rate of the root system.

2. Pay attention to disinfection: after pruning the branches, leaves and roots, it is time to start repotting. The newly chosen flowerpot should be thoroughly disinfected, especially after root pruning, so as to prevent pathogens from invading through the wounds. Mainly spray carbendazim or potassium permanganate solution for disinfection. The roots and soil for repotting should also be properly disinfected to help the roots grow and adapt to the new pot as quickly as possible and produce more brilliant flowers.

3. Pay attention to shading: after each repotting, kalanchoe should not be exposed to light immediately. Wait until the roots have adapted to the new soil and pot and new buds or true leaves have grown, then place it in an environment with sufficient light for care. At the same time, water thoroughly once in time, keep the soil moist often, and do a good job of drainage and waterlogging prevention during the rainy season. However, if it is placed in the sun immediately after repotting, its water will be lost, and the roots will be unable to replenish enough water, eventually drying up and dying.

The time to repot kalanchoe is coming around again. I hope everyone can prepare well for repotting and let the kalanchoe grow more robustly.
