Pomelo contains very rich nutritional value, can play a dietary therapeutic effect of beautifying the face and nourishing the skin, also has the effect of weight loss and body shaping, and also has a preventive and therapeutic effect on many diseases. In China it is mainly distributed in all areas south of the Yangtze River, with the northernmost limit found in the Xinyang and Nanyang area of Henan Province. So, what are the key points of high-yield pomelo cultivation techniques? How long after planting does it fruit?

I. What are the key points of high-yield pomelo cultivation techniques?

1. Soil

Pomelo trees have fairly strong adaptability to soil and have no rigid requirements for soil, so they can grow normally on most soils. However, if you want to obtain high-quality, high-yield fruit, it is still best to establish the orchard on sandy soil that is fertile, deep and loose in texture, and has strong permeability and drainage. When establishing the orchard, the orchard layout must be planned reasonably, the orchard area determined, the planting density reasonably distributed, and a series of preparations such as roads and irrigation and drainage facilities set up, to facilitate later management. Try to establish the orchard in a place with convenient transportation, communications, and sufficient water sources, so as to facilitate later transport.

2. Seed selection

After the orchard site is established, choosing an excellent variety is the key to a bumper harvest. Choose seedlings that are disease-free and pest-free, vigorous in growth, and robust. During transport, take care that the seedlings do not suffer mechanical damage, which would affect seedling quality and growth.

3. Planting

After a pomelo tree matures, its trunk is relatively large, so when planting, the planting pit should be dug large, with depth and width preferably around 80*100 cm. When planting, apply organic fertilizer together with the soil in layered applications. After planting, water thoroughly to settle the roots, then cover with grass material to preserve water and moisture.

4. Young tree management

Management of young trees after planting is very important. Fertilization of young trees should mainly be frequent light applications, with at least two applications of quick-acting fertilizer each month. In addition, some vegetable crops can be planted between the rows of fruit trees, which not only loosens the soil but also, after they mature, can be turned into the soil to be used as fertilizer. Properly prune out excessive vegetative branches, and use methods such as bud rubbing and shoot control to improve the permeability of the orchard canopy and promote and strengthen the photosynthesis of the fruit trees. Then, later, according to the growth of the fruit trees, carry out appropriate girdling of the tree body.

5. Fertilization management

Fertilization of pomelo trees is mainly based on farmyard manure. Pomelo needs a large amount of nutrients during its growth process, so during cultivation you must ensure sufficient nutrients for the growth of the pomelo tree. When the pomelo tree is flowering and fruiting, chemical fertilizers must not be used, especially chlorine-containing fertilizers. For a tree bearing fruit for the first time, fertilizer should be applied at least three times: the first time after harvest, then the second time in the spring of the following year when buds sprout, and the last time during fruit enlargement. It is mainly based on farmyard manure, and later topdressing work depends on the growth of the fruit trees and soil fertility.

II. How long after planting does pomelo fruit?

Seedling pomelo trees generally begin to fruit after 8-10 years, while grafted trees fruit after 4-5 years. One to two years after the first fruit, they enter the full fruiting period. Five- to seven-year-old grafted trees on trifoliate orange rootstock yield 15-50 kg per tree, and at 8-10 years can reach 50-100 kg.

In addition, the fruiting time of pomelo trees is also related to management. If daily management is proper, fruiting will be earlier.
