The rose is a flower widely cultivated all over the world, with many varieties, and different varieties also have different flower colors. Roses not only have ornamental value, but can also be used to extract fragrances to make skincare products, essential oils, and more. Let's take a look below at whether the rose is the national flower of Bulgaria. When does it generally bloom?

1. Is the rose the national flower of Bulgaria?

The rose is the national flower of Bulgaria. Bulgaria's main rose-producing area is the “Rose Valley”, which is mainly used to extract rose oil. Its output accounts for one quarter of Bulgaria's national production and is also quite famous around the world.

Bulgaria's history of producing rose oil can be traced back three hundred years. Moreover, in order to preserve this traditional craft, since the late 1960s the first Sunday of June each year has been designated as the “Rose Festival”. During the rose harvest season, local people also celebrate the “Rose Festival” extravagantly.

2. When do roses generally bloom?

Different varieties of roses bloom at different times. Common varieties begin blooming in mid-April, May to July is the vigorous growth period for roses, and by August and September they wither. For varieties such as the four-season rose, the blooming period extends into the cold winter. In addition, sunlight also affects the blooming time; when the temperature is suitable, the blooming time comes earlier.

3. How should roses be cared for so they bloom abundantly?

1. Increase light to promote blooming

Roses are sun-loving plants. They like to grow in places with sufficient light. Through photosynthesis, roses quickly synthesize nutrients, their leaves become greener, and their petals become more vivid. Therefore, roses should be guaranteed sufficient light every day, about 8 hours of light. Because the blooming period of roses is short, take care to avoid direct strong light.

2. Correct watering method

Roses like a dry environment and are not tolerant of wetness. The growth of roses does not require much water. Especially during the growth period of roses, be sure to control the amount of watering, as this can promote blooming. Too much water instead prevents the rose roots from breathing normally and can easily lead to drowning. During the blooming period, watering can be appropriately increased. In spring, when the temperature is not high, water generally once every 1-2 days. In hot summer, water demand is greater, generally once a day, while in autumn water once every 3-5 days.

3. Maintain suitable winter temperatures

Roses have poor heat tolerance and relatively good cold tolerance. Of course, they cannot tolerate excessively low temperatures either. Generally, winter in northern regions is fine. The most suitable temperature for rose growth is between 13 and 21 degrees Celsius. Too high or too low a temperature will affect blooming, so no matter the season, pay attention to controlling indoor temperature and avoid temperatures that are too high or too low.

4. Sufficient fertilizer during the blooming period

Roses have high nutrient needs, so fertilize more. During the dormant period of roses in winter, not only should the potting soil be kept moist and breathable, but roses should also be fertilized regularly. Only by supplementing nutrients can there be a chance of a full pot of blooms.

For fertilization, you can choose decomposed bone meal or soybean cake fertilizer, or use a general-purpose microbial inoculant. The microorganisms in it fix nitrogen and solubilize phosphorus and potassium, and their metabolites can improve soil breathability, allowing the roots to absorb nutrients better.
