Now many growers have set their sights on the vegetable market, and more and more people are growing vegetables, because vegetables can fetch a good price on the market and are also the key to growers making their fortune. So what are the planting prospects for cherry radish in 2020? What are its planting management techniques?

I. What are the planting prospects for cherry radish in 2020

Cherry radish is a newly emerging small-type radish that is very popular on the market. Because its appearance closely resembles a cherry, it is called cherry radish. Cherry radish is easy to grow and grows extremely fast, reaching harvest in 60 days. It can be planted in three cropping seasons a year: spring-summer, summer-autumn, and autumn-winter, and its market price reaches as high as 20 yuan/jin. The spring-summer crop is generally sown in mid-March and harvested from late April to early May, with a yield of about 1000 kg per mu; the summer-autumn crop is sown in mid-August and harvested in early to mid-September, with a yield of 750-1000 kg per mu; the autumn-winter crop is sown from late September to early October and harvested from mid to late November, with a yield of 1000-1250 kg per mu. Market demand for cherry radish is strong, but there is still no large-scale cultivation in our country at present, leaving a market gap, which also means huge market potential.

II. Planting management techniques for cherry radish

1. Soil management

Cherry radish has strong adaptability and is not strict about soil requirements, but soil quality has a certain influence on the yield and quality of cherry radish. Therefore, when choosing planting soil, sandy soil that is deep and soft, retains water and fertilizer, drains and irrigates normally, and has strong permeability should be the main choice. It needs more nutrients during growth, especially potassium fertilizer. Therefore, the potassium content in the soil must be ensured, followed by nitrogen fertilizer and phosphate fertilizer. Sufficient nutrients are the key to ensuring the healthy growth of cherry radish, but attention must also be paid during planting.

2. Water management

Water is very important for the growth of cherry radish, and during the planting process, water should be supplied evenly. After cherry radish emerges, soil moisture can be maintained. When cherry radish enters its peak growth period, it should be watered in time to keep soil moisture content at about 70%. If the moisture content is too low, the moisture content of the fleshy root will be too low, hollow cavities will appear, nutrient content will also decrease, growth rate will drop noticeably, and the number of fibrous roots will increase, which will affect quality.

3. Light management

During the growth of cherry radish, sufficient light must be maintained. Insufficient light will affect the photosynthesis of cherry radish, reduce the accumulation of photosynthetic substances, affect the quality of cherry radish, hinder the enlargement of the fleshy root, and slow it down. On the contrary, if light is sufficient, it is very beneficial to the growth of cherry radish. Maintaining about 13 hours of light per day can extend its flowering period, but be careful not to expose it to direct sunlight for too long, otherwise it is easy to scorch the plant's leaves and affect the growth of cherry radish.

4. Temperature management

Cherry radish is a temperate vegetable with relatively poor heat tolerance, but it has fairly good cold resistance. During the growth of cherry radish, the temperature should be controlled between 8-24°C, with the optimum temperature at about 20°C, and the optimum temperature for seed germination at about 22°C. Cherry radish has different temperature requirements at all growth stages. For example, when the fleshy root is enlarging, the temperature should be controlled at about 10-18°C; when the temperature is below 5°C, the growth rate drops noticeably and early bolting is likely to occur; if the temperature is too high, it will reduce the plant's stress resistance and cause various pests and diseases.

To achieve certain economic benefits from cherry radish planting, it is best to carry out large-scale intensive management, but small-scale planting can also make money, though the benefits will relatively not be as good. Growers can consider the planting scale at their own discretion according to their own circumstances.
