With the continuous improvement of agricultural science and technology, organic food has attracted more and more attention, and organic fertilizer has gradually become an essential fertilizer in crop growth. So, what kind of fertilizer is organic fertilizer? What are its methods of use?

1. What kind of fertilizer is organic fertilizer?

Organic fertilizer is also called “farmyard manure”. It mainly comes from plants or animals and is a carbon-containing material whose main function is to provide plant nutrition when applied to the soil. It includes human excrement and urine, stable manure, compost, green manure, cake fertilizer, biogas fertilizer, and so on. It has the characteristics of many types, a wide range of sources, and relatively long fertilizer efficiency, and it can improve soil structure, coordinate the water, fertilizer, air, and heat in the soil, and increase soil fertility and land productivity.

2. What are the methods of use for organic fertilizer?

1. Application as base fertilizer

Apply it evenly when plowing and preparing the land, which can achieve a very good purpose of improving the soil, but this method is only suitable for crops with a high planting density.

2. Application as topdressing

There are two methods: deep soil application and foliar topdressing. Deep soil application is to apply organic fertilizer near the dense root layer, then cover it with soil after application. Foliar topdressing is to mix compost and water at 1:10, let it stand, then take the supernatant liquid and spray the solution onto the crop leaves with a sprayer.

3. Seed fertilizer

There are many methods of applying seed fertilizer, such as seed dressing, seed soaking, row application, and hole application. Seed dressing is a method in which a small amount of clean water is used to dissolve or dilute the fertilizer, which is then sprayed onto the seed surface while stirring, so that the fertilizer solution evenly adheres to the seed surface, and the seeds are sown after drying in the shade. Seed soaking is to dilute the fertilizer into a solution of a certain concentration, soak the seeds for about one day, and sow after drying in the shade. After opening furrows or digging holes, apply the fertilizer into furrows or holes 3-5 cm deep, then sow near the fertilizer band, keeping the distance from the seed fertilizer at more than 3 cm. Fertilizers used as seed fertilizer are required to release nutrients quickly, not be too acidic or too alkaline, and not have a toxic effect on seed germination; fully decomposed organic fertilizer after composting is a very good seed fertilizer.

4. Seedling fertilizer

Generally, fully fermented organic fertilizer is mixed with a certain amount of peat, vermiculite, or perlite, and mixed evenly with soil to be used as a seedling-raising substrate.

5. Full-layer application and concentrated application of organic fertilizer

Full-layer application is to spread organic fertilizer over the entire surface of the ground and work it into the whole soil layer through cultivation. This fertilization method can be applied when there is a relatively large amount of organic fertilizer or when the crop density is relatively high. Concentrated application into the soil is to apply compost near the crop roots by opening furrows. This fertilization method is generally used when there is less fertilizer and soil fertility is relatively low.

Finally, everyone should be reminded that organic fertilizer must be fully decomposed before use, which can maximize the avoidance of crop pests and diseases and seedling burn.
