How much is sugarcane per jin in 2020? Plus key planting techniques
As the country with the third-largest sugarcane planting area in the world, China's sugarcane production areas are mainly distributed in the southern regions with fertile soil, abundant sunshine and a large temperature difference between winter and summer. So how much is sugarcane per jin in 2020? What are the planting techniques?

2. Sugarcane planting techniques
1. Seed selection
When selecting seeds, choose sugarcane tops that grow uniformly, have thick stalks, plump buds, fresh bud scales, broad green leaves, have not flowered or eared, are not hollow, and are free of pests and diseases as the seedlings.
2. Land selection
Generally choose silt loam with deep soil, fertile soil, loose texture, good drainage and irrigation, convenient transportation and abundant sunshine.
3. Land preparation and ridge formation
The sugarcane field should be finely tilled, with deep ploughing of 20~25 cm, fine clods and small soil particles, and loose and breathable soil. Drainage ditches should be opened around the sugarcane field, with a depth of 25 cm and a width of 20 cm, to prevent waterlogging on rainy days.
4. Planting specifications
Plant spacing 0.9 m, row spacing 1 m, pit depth 18~20 cm, planting density 11100 plants/hm2.
5. Planting time and base fertilizer amount
Generally in February to April; too early makes sugarcane seeds hard to buy, and too late affects yield and quality. Before planting, while loosening the pits, apply farmyard manure 15~22.5 t/hm2, 25% ternary compound fertilizer 0.75 t/hm2 or ordinary calcium 0.75~9.9 t/hm2, urea 0.225~0.3 t/hm2, potassium sulfate 0.15~0.225 t/hm2, and furadan 0.04~0.06 t/hm2, mix thoroughly and evenly, then apply to the bottom of the pit, and cover the fertilizer surface with 5~8 cm of soil to prevent the fertilizer from directly contacting the sugarcane seeds and avoid burning the seedlings.
Plant 2~4 sugarcane tops per pit, place the single tops flat, with buds facing both sides and the sugarcane tops pointing in one direction, then clean the pit and cover with soil. When covering with soil, each seedling must be covered firmly so that the seedling tightly contacts the soil, which helps the seedling absorb water and fertilizer and promotes germination.
6. Cultivation management
Fertilization: To make sugarcane high-yielding, crisp and juicy, more nitrogen fertilizer should be applied. Nitrogen fertilizer should be applied early, frequently and lightly; apply lightly at the seedling stage and late stage, and apply heavily at the peak tillering stage and peak elongation stage. Appropriately increase the amount of phosphate fertilizer; phosphate fertilizer should be composted with organic fertilizer and applied as base fertilizer. Applying phosphate fertilizer can increase the sweetness of Luohan sugarcane and improve the quality of sugarcane. Apply less potassium fertilizer to avoid hard sugarcane skin, rough fiber and reduced quality.
Irrigation: Sugarcane has a large water requirement, so timely irrigation should be noted, but large-scale flooding should be avoided; light and slow irrigation is advocated to keep the soil with a certain degree of dryness and wetness, mainly moist.
Although sugarcane is a very common crop, there is quite a lot of technical know-how. In the later stage, wind protection, lodging prevention, frost prevention and pest and disease management must also be done well to ensure yield and quality and improve benefits.
