Super Rice Yield Per Mu and the 2020 Varieties Confirmed by the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs

Rice is one of China's main food crops and is grown in both the north and the south of the country. Moreover, with advances in science and technology, a number of super rice varieties have been bred. So how much is the yield per mu of super rice? Which varieties are there in 2020? In response, the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs issued the notice on the confirmed super rice varieties for 2020! Let's take a look at the details below.

1. What is the yield per mu of super rice?

The yield per mu for ordinary farmers is more than 800 kg, while in small-scale trial fields the yield per mu can reach 1200 kg. And on October 10, 2014, in Xupu County, Hunan Province, the yield per mu of the first 100-mu block of super rice exceeded 1000 kg, setting a new record of 1026.7 kg.

To the agriculture and rural affairs (agriculture and animal husbandry) departments (bureaus, commissions) of all provinces, autonomous regions and municipalities directly under the Central Government, the Agriculture and Rural Affairs Bureau of the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps, and relevant units:

In accordance with the Measures for the Confirmation of Super Rice Varieties (Nong Ban Ke [2008] No. 38), and after recommendations from various localities and expert review, 11 varieties including Suken 118 and Zhongzu 143 are hereby confirmed as super rice varieties for 2020 (Attachment 1). Because the promotion area did not meet the requirements, 10 varieties, including Fengyou 299, Liangyou Peijiu, Nei 2 You No. 6, Ganxin 688, II You Hang No. 2, Rongyou No. 3, Yangjing 4038, Wuyunjing No. 24, Chujing No. 28 and Jinyou 785, have their super rice designation revoked. At present, there are a total of 133 super rice varieties confirmed by our Ministry (Attachment 2).

All localities are requested to, in accordance with relevant requirements, conscientiously carry out the breeding and demonstration promotion of new super rice varieties, so as to provide solid scientific and technological support for implementing the strategy of “storing grain in the land and storing grain in technology” and ensuring national food security.
