A detailed guide to bowl lotus planting methods, teaching you daily management step by step
In the height of summer, many summer plants attract attention. The bowl lotus is currently one of the more common plants with relatively high enthusiasm for growing, so what are the planting methods for bowl lotus? How do you carry out daily management?
Planting methods for bowl lotus
1. Soil selection
Although the bowl lotus has strong growth ability, planting it in paddy field soil rich in organic matter can better increase its growth rate. It must not be planted near pollution sources, and if yellow mud is used for planting, attention should be paid to its viscosity; if it is too sticky, it will affect the growth of the bowl lotus roots. It should also not be too loose, otherwise the stems are easily broken, affecting root growth. If pot planting is used, then it is best to mix yellow mud and sandy soil in roughly equal parts as the cultivation soil, then control the pot specifications well to ensure there is enough depth for its roots to grow fully.
2. Sowing and raising seedlings
Bowl lotus seeds are relatively hard, so before planting we need to break the seed coat, grinding through the concave point of the seed. When breaking the coat, be careful not to damage the seed kernel, so that the seed can absorb water. Then soak the seeds in warm water at about 30 degrees for about 5 days; during soaking, change the water about once every 2 days. Then after the seeds germinate, put them into the prepared soil; after seedlings emerge, transplant them at the right time, and water after transplanting. Under suitable surrounding environmental conditions, the time from sowing to flowering is about 2 months.
3. Fertilizing at the right time
The bowl lotus has relatively large nutritional needs. If nutrients are lacking during the planting process, it will seriously affect the growth of the bowl lotus. Therefore, before planting we should apply sufficient base fertilizer to meet the nutritional needs of the bowl lotus growth. However, we need to note that although the bowl lotus has a large fertilizer requirement, fertilizer should not be applied excessively. Usually, when the base fertilizer is sufficient, no further fertilizing is needed afterward. This prevents excessive fertilizer from causing the bowl lotus to grow leggy; however, in order to lengthen the flowering period, cake fertilizer crumbs can be appropriately applied in summer. But note that fertilizing should be the main approach, preventing excessive heat from burning the bowl lotus roots.
4. Daily management
The bowl lotus has a relatively large demand for light, and the daily light duration must be more than 5 hours, otherwise it will seriously affect the flower bud differentiation of the bowl lotus. During the growth period, it is best to let it receive full sun, and pay attention to the number of floating leaves to avoid reducing permeability. However, when the sunlight is too strong, also pay attention to appropriate shading to prevent scorching, which causes withered tips. When the bowl lotus grows too densely, do good pruning work and remove leaves appropriately. This can not only promote the bowl lotus to breathe, but also reduce nutrient consumption and increase the flowering rate.
Growing plants is a technical job, and it also requires careful care. Since you have decided to plant, you must persist well.
