Pothos or Christmas cactus about to die? One drastic cut back to the bare stems and they will grow like crazy
Cut pothos back to bare stems and it is reborn!
The weather has been rather cold recently. One gardening friend moved the pothos down from the windowsill at night to keep it from getting frostbitten, but forgot to close the rabbit hutch, and the pothos was chewed to the rabbit's heart's content.
Look at this culprit with such an innocent face, not feeling at all that it did anything wrong. There is really no way to deal with it!
Rescue method:
1. Seeing the pothos chewed like this, just trim the wounds the rabbit made, and cut the whole pot back to bare stems while you are at it, leaving only about 2 cm above the soil.
2. Don't waste the cut stems. Find a bottle and grow them in water. Before they root, change the water every 2~3 days and do not fertilize. After they root, you can change the water once a week and add a little diluted nutrient solution.
3. Pothos cut back to bare stems sprouts very quickly, and the new growth is much stronger than before. If your pothos grows slowly or looks listless, you can try this method!
Cut asparagus fern back to bare stems and it grows into a green umbrella!
The layered appearance of asparagus fern is very elegant, but asparagus fern turns yellow easily. Once the leaves yellow, the whole pot looks as ugly as if it had been smoked. At this point, just harden your heart and cut it back to bare stems, then wait for the asparagus fern to grow new leaves!
Rescue method:
1. Prepare a pair of sterilized scissors and cut 10~15 cm above the roots. Be careful not to cut too short, because the stems of asparagus fern have many lateral bud points, and cutting them off will hinder growth.
2. After trimming the asparagus fern, under no circumstances should it be in direct sunlight. Keep it in a semi-shaded spot, make sure there is ventilation, and do not water until the soil is dry.
3. After the asparagus fern grows new leaves, you can use decomposed organic fertilizer 1~2 times a month, a little each time. Do not use raw fertilizer. In just a few months it will grow into a green umbrella!
Cut pennywort back to bare stems and the leaves become as big as your palm!
Pennywort is very easy to grow, but if it flowers and is not trimmed, it becomes very unsightly, and the leaves also vary in size and turn yellow. Pennywort also wilts when frozen in winter. At this point all you need is a pair of scissors.
Rescue method:
1. Cut evenly with scissors, leaving 1~2 cm above the water surface. For frostbitten pennywort, as long as the roots are not dead, you can use this method.
2. Put the closely cropped pennywort in the sunniest spot in the house. If the temperature is above 18 degrees, it will fill the pot again in a month. If your home is rather cold, growth will be slower and it will take about two months.
3. After trimming, pennywort grows more upright, and the leaves also get bigger. If your pennywort is growing messy and small, then get to work and cut it back to bare stems!
Shave the money tree bald and the leaves come out tender and green!
The money tree's leaves got bugs, turned yellow and dropped, and the whole money tree was almost dead. If you can trim it, the money tree can still grow leaves again!
Rescue method:
1. Cut off the branches and leaves, leaving only a few growth points. After cutting, make sure to keep it warm. You can cover it with a plastic bag with holes poked in it, and remove it after it sprouts.
2. A freshly cut money tree must be watered sparingly. Watering once every half a month or a month is enough. Make sure to ventilate it every day, and in just a few months it will grow new buds.
Give the Christmas cactus a trim and it perks right up!
The root system of the Christmas cactus is rather weak. Once care is not up to par, the leaves soften and droop, and it also wilts easily from the cold. At this point, if you trim it, the Christmas cactus can perk up again and bloom all over!
Rescue method:
1. If the Christmas cactus is not in its flowering period, you can trim it directly. If it is blooming, wait until it finishes before cutting. Based on how your Christmas cactus is growing, leave 5~6 segments of leaves above the roots, and cut off the denser branches and leaves as well.
2. Trim the Christmas cactus on a sunny day, not in cloudy or rainy weather. After cutting, water less and put it in a spot at home with weak light. Before long it will grow tender yellow new leaves.
3. After it grows new leaves, you can care for it as usual. When watering, add 3 granules of urea, used once every half a month, and the Christmas cactus will grow faster!
Cut spider plant back to bare stems and it is as good as plastic surgery!
Look at other people's spider plants, green and thriving, then look at your own spider plant with few, narrow leaves. One pair of scissors can give the spider plant plastic surgery, turning it from an ugly duckling into a fairy!
Rescue method:
1. When trimming a spider plant, you must be ruthless. You can cut right down close to the pot surface, as long as you don't cut into the roots.
2. Do not water a freshly cut spider plant. Wait until it is completely dry before watering. When watering, pour along the edge of the pot, not onto the spider plant's wounds.
3. Spider plants can be trimmed in any of the four seasons, as long as the temperature can reach 10 degrees. After the spider plant sprouts again it will grow very vigorously, as if you had swapped in a whole new pot of flowers!
If your plants' growth is making you despair,
you might as well harden your heart and give them a "buzz cut."
The reborn growth will absolutely surprise you!
