Papaya trees actually bloom! Actually, Part 1 of the series

"So, papaya trees do bloom! And they are this beautiful!" the little farmer cried out in delighted surprise! Farmer Dad snickered off to one side and recited, "Even if you have never eaten pork, you should at least have seen a pig walk." This papaya tree was planted by Farmer Dad in the small vegetable garden. It had been growing there for many years, and only recently did he look at it carefully. He was startled inside, not knowing when it had been blown crooked.

Only after asking Farmer Dad did he learn that it had gone through many typhoons and been knocked down by a big typhoon, and had been crooked for several years. After it tilted, Farmer Dad fixed the papaya tree with a wooden stick and rope, and unexpectedly it survived; although the papaya tree had been blown crooked, every year it still grew many papayas, laden with fruit, sweet and delicious.

Last weekend, taking advantage of the clear, fine weather, Farmer Dad began one after another to "dig vegetable furrows" (pronounced in Taiwanese) and plant vegetable seeds. This time he planted many different kinds of vegetables in the small vegetable garden! He planted a full three large furrows of white radish alone! Because when the harvest comes at the end of the year, it is also the season for making "cai pu" (dried radish), so when the harvest season for white radish arrives, Farmer Dad takes half the white radish harvest to make "cai pu." Because it is made according to the traditional solar terms, "cai pu" can only be made once a year, and when that time comes it is another great event in the little farmer's home.
