Come to Satoyama in winter and experience the fun of outdoor cooking and kiln roasting
After the autumn harvest, the rice paddies are sown with green manure and left to rest and recover, but the vegetable garden in the satoyama of Jiaopu is just beginning to bustle, as all kinds of winter vegetables come onto the scene one after another, and as temperatures gradually drop, the vegetables and fruits also turn fresh, crisp and sweet.
Winter in the satoyama is the best "food" time to experience local self-sufficiency. With vegetables grown by farming families, free-range mountain chickens, and firewood gathered from the hills, you can simmer up a delicious, fresh and sweet meal! We welcome adults and children alike to join hands and take part in the winter experience activity at the Satoyama School – "Wild Fun Satoyama Cooking".
In addition, the December "Come Stay a Night in the Satoyama" activity invites everyone to follow the satoyama families and spend the winter storing up food. We will go together to gather firewood, plant vegetables, raise chickens, pickle fu cai (preserved mustard greens), and roll tangyuan for the winter solstice. Most importantly, we will also go together to the rice paddies to build a kiln and roast a clay-oven chicken! The satoyama family life of winter awaits you to experience it all together!!
This year's "Wild Fun Satoyama Cooking" activity is scheduled to be held on 12/15 (Sun) and 12/28 (Sat); the "Come Stay a Night in the Satoyama" activity is scheduled to be held on 12/21 and 12/22. For details of the activities, please refer to the brochure, and adults and children who are interested are welcome to sign up right away!
