Non-GMO Volunteer Training Workshop Now Enrolling for 2015

Non-GMO Volunteer Training Workshop

Taiwan's self-sufficiency rate for coarse grains is extremely low, and it relies almost entirely on imports. Among the approved imported GM crops are corn and soybeans. More than 90% of imported soybeans are GM, and imported corn is over 50% GM. Although Taiwan does not grow GM crops, GM foods have long been ubiquitous in our lives.

GM technology remains endlessly controversial, but do we truly understand it correctly? And how should we choose? Since 2008, the Homemakers United Foundation, together with the NTU Seed Laboratory, the Green Formosa Front Association, and the Homemakers United Consumers' Cooperative, has jointly launched the "Taiwan Non-GMO Promotion Alliance," calling attention to the importance of food sovereignty, continuing to raise public awareness of GM foods, and carrying out related policy advocacy work. Considering the need to continuously build up follow-up promotion capacity, this year we will train non-GMO seed volunteers and gradually increase the number of future promotion lecturers.
