A Joyful Wheat Field Study Visit

In October this year, Joyful Wheat joined forces with the National Teachers Union Federation to jointly announce the "Wheat Field Study" cultivation program, with 40 elementary schools and homeschooling groups across Taiwan, China taking part.

Every school in the program receives a "Wheat Field Teaching Kit" containing wheat seeds, dried wheat ears, wheat field study lesson plans, materials on the growth of Taiwan wheat, and a documentary on local wheat. Through this "teaching package," the aim is to root food education from the ground up. The children taking part in the teaching program also have to plant wheat themselves at school; to help them better understand the connection between land, crops, and food, the children must log on to the Joyful Wheat Action Production Traceability website and update the growth of the wheat they cultivate.

One stop on the three-day Good Farmer Grand Tour was a visit to a school in the Wheat Field Study program, Qiaode Elementary School in Fangliao, Pingtung. At the end of November this year, they opened up an area of 20 sq m beside the eastern wall of the campus, letting teachers and students plant wheat together and diligently update the planting records on the Joyful Wheat production traceability site. Director Shi said that no matter how tight the schedule, before the grand tour hit the South Link Highway on its "eastward campaign" route, they absolutely had to let this group of passionate "old farmers" meet these outstanding "young farmers."
