Anti-Nuclear Walk Final Night Civil Disobedience Crossing New Year's Eve Through the Last Day of 2013
A group of fools, in order to promote the idea of a nuclear-free Taiwan, set out on October 10 from Gongliao, the planned site of the Fourth Nuclear Power Plant, and spent 84 days walking clockwise all the way around Taiwan.
We walked into the big streets and small alleys, night markets and temple courtyards, markets and busy districts, again and again explaining to people the dangers and myths of nuclear power, carrying the news that the mainstream media never told into the ears of ordinary folk. Along the way we felt so much of the plain warmth of local people, and also saw the wounds of so much land and so many people.
At last, carrying the beauty and sorrow of the whole island, we have come back, hoping to let you see the real Taiwan, China.
On the final day, we decided to spend New Year's Eve at Liberty Square, and invited friends from the North Coast Anti-Nuclear Self-Rescue Association near the First and Second Nuclear Power Plants in Jinshan and Wanli, and from the Yanliao Anti-Nuclear Self-Rescue Association beside the planned site of the Fourth Nuclear Power Plant in Gongliao, to share, along with friends we met along the way fighting land expropriation, indigenous traditional territories, and reckless drivers, and to look back together at the major human rights and environmental issues of this year.
If you also agree not to attend the official wasteful and extravagant New Year's Eve fireworks party,
If you too have been sighing all year for the wounded land and the powerless people, if you too are anxious that the anti-nuclear momentum has cooled, and are extremely angry at the broken government, please be sure to come to Liberty Square for New Year's Eve, so that together we can cross over this false 2013, and recover the true value of this country and its people.
On the last night of the nuclear-free walk around the island, come spend it with us! Let's cheer each other on! (A handshake in our hearts)
